Ready to Roll? Old-School Vibes Meet Epic 5e Adventures Hey there! I started playing D&D with the red booklet about a hundred years ago (give or take). After a long break, I returned to the game in 2016 as both a player and GM, and haven’t looked back since. I’m a fan of gritty, old-school dungeon crawling — the kind where combat takes an hour, and dividing the loot takes even longer. If that rings a nostalgic bell, we might just be a good fit. What I offer: I run official DRAW STEEL and D&D 5e adventures with a strong narrative focus, using the full suite of Roll20 resources. My favorites include: Dungeon of the Mad Mage Curse of Strahd Lost Mine of Phandelver Tomb of Annihilation (9 Trickster Gods) Light of Xaryxis Dragons of Stormwreck Isle Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen I’m also happy to run other modules like Icewind Dale or Keys from the Golden Vault upon request. You’ll have full access to all WotC and Kobold Press content on Roll20 — spells, feats, subclasses, races, and backgrounds that go way beyond the basics. My Style: Think Heroic Tactical Cinematic Fantasy, as Matt Colville might call it — with a healthy dose of survival challenges. I love building stories with the players, where we all invest in the world and its stakes. That moment when the dice hit the table and everyone holds their breath? That’s what I’m here for. Fighting a dragon is cool. Fighting a dragon in its lair, inside a volcano, behind the misty mountains, where you only got access because you bartered with a fireproof potion from a dwarf who bought it from a troll who looted it from a dead tiefling? That’s epic. I care about tactics, but I care just as much about group dynamics and party cohesion. Talking to each other, planning together — that’s how you survive and thrive. Interested? If you’re looking for immersive storytelling, tactical combat, and a good dose of old-school dungeon spirit, send me a friend request on Discord: gmbear Let’s roll some dice.

Having been a player for nearly five years and being a DM for my home game for almost two years, I want to bring a home game feel to online play. I want players to feel safe exploring their characters while enjoying the freedom to try crazy shenanigans designed to derail the DM's cunning plans.

Hello! Thanks for considering me to be your Game Master (GM)! My name is Ryan and I can take you on an exciting adventure! It started for me back in high school, almost ten years ago. My best friend and were always drafting up board games and were eventually introduced to tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) through a mutual friend who GMed for us. I loved how much more immersed and interactive a roleplaying game was compared to the board games and video games I grew up playing. Needless to say, I was hooked, and it wasn't even Dungeons and Dragons, yet! Fast forward a few years and after I graduated Bible college, I was approached by a group of buddies who searched for a GM for Dungeons and Dragons 5e - and how could I say no? They were the most chaotic bunch of players, we had a ton of fun learning and playing together. They helped me develop a skill set that allows for creative and clever solutions to problems in these games while keeping the story focused and the combat interesting! Through my time as a GM since then, I've helped tables develop a community aspect. Here you don't just show up and leave on time like some 9-5 job, you're here to make memories with some awesome players who love the game as much as you. No matter who you are or what you believe, let's have fun together and see our heroes in exciting action against mighty foes!

Some dragons hoard gold. Others hoard gemstones. While I never will turn down such hoards, I hoard stories - a hoard that grows with each passing day. As a long-term roleplay writer, I enjoy creating new stories and curating prewritten ones to fit the tone or purpose of my stories, parties, and games. I have been type-roleplaying for many years, being part of the forum roleplay groups back in the age of Gaia Online and other similar groups. Since then, I have been writing posts that expressed the inner workings, the active actions, and the pointed conversations of hundreds of complex characters. This is only amplified when compiling them together to form a story that is reactive and interactable from a group seeking the next dawn. I have a corgi familiar named Fenrir who often enjoys giving me the Help action and is a mini-celebrity amongst my players, often having a related npc or party pet that represents Fenrir and his antics. I value narrative context and will do my best to fit the mechanics to the narrative you want. This has led me to curating and crafting custom content - often referred to as homebrew - for several games, players, and even other game masters. I do my best to not include AI generated imagery in my live games, choosing to not use such images for advertisement and actively replacing any edge/unknown cases with commissioned pieces, and often support growing artists in my communities. I also do not use AI in any of my play-by-post messages. This provides a raw experience to my creative inspirations.

Hello all, I'm Alebrelle! I am a queer trans autistic leftist who has been doing tabletop of various flavors and intensities for just around 30 years now. My *FIRST* first game was (very badly) running the AD&D Box Set for my sister in 7th grade. My first campaign as a player was Shadowrun 2e in 10th grade. TTRPGs has been one of my longest standing special interests, and so I have a very deep and broad experience, LARPs, horror, fantasy, wire-fu, comedy, romance, cyberpunk, I've seen a bit of it, or a lot. I love making, crafting, and if I were a trust fund baby I'd probably play tabletop games nearly continuously. There's enough out there to feed the habit. I have some small voice over experience, I have run games for long time friends, and at conventions tables up to 8 folks at once. I am a content creator on various platforms, and if you want to record our sessions and post them somewhere ask me about it. If you want *me* to produce, record, and edit them; we can do that too. Just ask, I'm sure we can work something out! My games list below is *far* from extensive, I kept it limited to meeting at least one of these criteria: 1) Played more than one session of, 2) GM'd a campaign, or 3) Read the sourcebook cover-to-cover in prep for GMing a game that never came together. While I have my favorite stuff to run (most anything Powered by the Apocalypse, thank you Vincent & Meguey Baker), I think I have a grasp on most any genre enough to run a game. If you have something niche or particular please reach out directly and we can talk about it and see if I can give you the game noone else has. Which, to be honest, tends to be my goal even with games you've played for years: Give you the best game possible.

Long time gamer and GM for almost as long: very early on in my gaming career I got the bug for writing adventures and setting up scenarios to surprise and entertain a group. I dabbled in drama and other creative outlets over the years but the one constant has been running games; I get more of a kick out of the players' enjoyment of a good session (be it dramatic, tense, comedic, frantic or just political) than I do out of any other creative outlet I ever found! I live in Ireland (UTC / GMT) but can be flexible around scheduling. I don't have a strong accent and (although I am inclined to do some "character voices") I focus on a clear storytelling voice rather than any kind of serious voice acting. It is super important to me that the group is inclusive and welcoming to all. Everyone is entitled to an opportunity to enjoy this hobby in a supportive and inclusive environment. Please be aware of your biases and check them at the door. The group may, as part of the story, face challenges and address social norms / biases etc in a respectful way but as GM I reserve the right to draw a red line where I believe this may cause undue discomfort to other players. Real world prejudice will not be accepted in any group hosted by me. In terms of experience with settings and systems: I have spent many years on and off as a DM for D&D (then AD&D, now D&D again) but over time I also drifted more into gothic and storytelling games (World of Darkness), and science fantasy (Shadowrun / Cyberpunk) and more space faring sci-fi (Traveller and Star Wars). Feel free to reach out if you have a group / would like to start a group and are looking for a GM - I'm open to run pretty much anything I have experience with (non-exhaustive list below, I own the rules to most of those systems in hard copy or digital and if I don't own a copy I'll pick them up). Let's have some fun!!

Welcome to my gaming profile! I'm Berrey Matlock, and I'm thrilled to be hosting games here on StartPlaying.games. With over 27 years of experience in dungeon mastering and storytelling, I've traversed countless realms of imagination, from the perilous dungeons of Dungeons & Dragons to the shadowed streets of Vampire: The Masquerade. Throughout my journey, one principle has always guided me: the unwavering commitment to entertain my players above all else while providing a safe and inclusive space that's welcoming to all. What drives me to host games is the sheer joy of creating unforgettable experiences for my players. For me, it's not just about crafting intricate plots or challenging encounters; it's about fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. Whether it's leading a band of intrepid adventurers on a quest to save the world or immersing players in the dark and atmospheric world of vampire politics, I prioritize creating a safe and inclusive space where players can be themselves and explore their creativity without fear of judgment. What sets me apart as a GM is my relentless dedication to fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. I believe that tabletop RPGs have the power to bring people together, regardless of background or identity, and I go above and beyond to ensure that everyone at the table feels heard, seen, and respected. Whether it's through thoughtful world-building that reflects diverse perspectives, proactive communication to address any concerns or discomfort, or simply creating opportunities for players to shine and express themselves authentically, I strive to create a space where everyone can thrive. So, whether you're a seasoned adventurer or a curious newcomer, I invite you to join me on an epic journey through the realms of imagination. Together, we'll embark on thrilling adventures, forge lasting friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime."

Hi! You all call me Ki! I am a 20-something nerd who loves video games, anime/manga, DND, and many other things! I am a forever DM who has been dming since 2018 and I've decided to branch out past my current groups to start playing. I've enjoyed being a DM since I started, which was my second session of DND ever that I decided to take the plunge and I haven't looked back since. I love being able to create worlds and explore characters, stories, and unique concepts through the manner of tabletop games! For now I only offer DND 5e(2014) but am looking into expanding my knowledge with time! My number 1 goal is to make sure everyone has fun, feels safe, and walks away from my table feeling satisfied. I can do just about any genre and am known to very much dabble in many, as well as making brand new systems, mechanics, and a whole lot of homebrew for my campaign and players.

Greetings hero, I am Alex I have been running these improv dice-enhanced stories for a few years for people roughly about 9 years altogether, most of them being long-term games with the same players, the longest being one and a half years long. I enjoy incorporating my players' character stories into the game world and letting them carve their names into the world while creating amazing stories and developing the character's story further than what we came up with originally, seeing how they evolve.

Hey, I’m Roxas! I’m a Game Master with over a decade of experience bringing worlds to life across games like Dungeons & Dragons and Vampire: The Masquerade. Whether it's a crumbling gothic city or a realm on the brink of collapse, I specialize in crafting deep, immersive narratives where players don’t just witness the story, they’re woven into it. I hold an associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degree, but in the end being a story teller has become my path. I've spent years honing my craft, including training in voice acting, so that every NPC, villain, or tragic figure feels alive, layered, and unforgettable. The goal? To make every moment visceral, personal, and player-driven. When I’m not prepping the next emotional gut-punch or moral dilemma, you’ll find me lost in sourcebooks, building lore-soaked worlds, or adding my own flair to the table, yes, including the occasional spontaneous musical number (I didn't chose bard life, bard life chose me). If you’re into Critical Role, epic character arcs, and settings that feel like they breathe around you, welcome, you’re among friends. And finally, don’t forget to love each other!

I've also designed my own adventure paths, campaign settings, and mechanics, giving me a deep understanding of how story and mechanics can work hand-in-hand. My true passion lies in collaborative storytelling, weaving unforgettable adventures through improv, roleplay, and the dynamic systems of TTRPGs. Whether you're new to the table or a seasoned dice-roller, I’m here to help you explore new worlds, tell epic stories, and, most importantly, have a blast doing it!

Imagine The air is cold, stale, and dry. You entered to half-buried hill of old stones following clues scrounged from the lair of cultists, paired with research the wizard spent weeks on...weeks of boredom in the sleepy town. Now, you finally get to stretch your limbs and do what you do best! Ahead of your group the darkness billows like a gauzy curtain. Rock dust grits beneath your boots as the party creeps into a broken chamber. The small sounds you make echo back to you seconds later, distorted, and the ceiling is lost above you in shadow. You can feel the crushing weight of stone above. The fighter carries a torch which gutters in a sudden wind. Sounds creep from the surrounding dark; the dry rasp of scales on stone. The sorcerer's eyes go white as it watches from above through the eyes if it's familiar. The sound of the rogue's footsteps fade as they slip away from the torch's light, knowing that an attack is imminent. Inhuman throats hiss all around the party, whispering coughs punctuating the roiling darkness. At the edges of the torch light the gloom takes shape. Scaled creatures in filthy robes hiss as they charge into the circle of the party's light...What do *you* do?! Decades of Passion and Experience are your Game Engine Play campaigns that are a combination of player-generated and GM-inspired. Be immersed in rich description, action, problem-solving, and meaningful choice! Enjoy tense combat in a combination of grid tactics and narrative description. Dive into sandbox-style play, build your character’s name, resources, and power while unraveling mysteries and secrets. Then use those secrets to alter the direction of the world story, impacting hundreds or thousands with your decisions. Interact with new game mechanics, magic items, and creatures. Personalize your character and tie their abilities to the history of the world. Enjoy tailored gameplay based on character background, abilities, and player playstyle. Delve into grounded and human settings, with events happening beyond your character's actions, and NPCs who have agendas of their own. Experience detailed, evocative worlds, and explore them with a fun table of players and flexible GM who has something to offer every playstyle! Different Playstyles I run several tables and each table has a different game style. New players are absolutely welcome! I enjoy bringing new players in. It may actually be one of my favorite things. New players always bring a fresh perspective, a curiosity about the game, a willingness to flow with others, fresh creativity, and bravery when it comes to trying new things. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are my best tables for new players. Some of my tables are more challenging than others, some campaigns or groups leaning more toward grittyness, hardcore gameplay, and deep detail. Regardless, the groups that form around my game tables are all gracious and patient...because this is what we feel it takes to make a great game! Old-School, Narrative, and Homebrew I combine elements from many editions of the game, alter rules for each table and world to match the theme, and in many ways tailor the game to my table. If you are looking for a strict interpretation of 5e rules, looking to play the mechanics, min/max, run game-breaking builds, etc, and are put off by homebrew and rule changes I may not be the DM for you. However, if you are into the spirit of co-creation, like characters that are unique to the table, and want both narrative and granular play then feel free to join us and observe a session!

Hi! Welcome, stranger and potential friend! I know your time is valuable, so I'll start with The Most Important Thing: I work hard to make my games as safe and inclusive as possible. I've had the experience of being The Only Girl at the Table. In a game featuring vampires and other supernatural creatures, I've been told that I can't play a warrior or a scholar because that's "not realistic." I've had the experience of playing in games where the only female NPCs were barmaids. I've also been queerbaited and/or played in games that only featured same sex relationships as fantasies for the rest of the players or as punchlines. It's my goal to make my games the EXACT OPPOSITE of those experiences by creating an environment where marginalized players can be themselves and see themselves in the games they play. My adventure in the wild world of professional GMing began with a misfortune. I was on the path to being a lifelong academic when I caught Covid during the first wave. I was seriously ill. I spent a great deal of time in bed and a great deal of time recovering. Those long, empty days gave me a lot of time to think about my major life decisions. Ultimately, it was this self-examination that led me here! Needless to say, my fun with TTRPGs began well before my foray into academia. I started playing Vampire the Masquerade when I was only 13 years old! I ran my first VtM game shortly after I became a player. In addition to VtM, I've been both player and storyteller for Werewolf, Changeling, Hunter, and Wraith- with a little D&D and Monster of the Week sprinkled in for good measure. I'm also a lifelong horror fan. When I'm not consuming horror via film, I like to read EC comics and bad horror/pulp novels! I've linked my IG and my Discord, so come hang out with me on the socials!

Hello! My name's gibzx! I'm a digital artist and Dungeon Master! I've been playing D&D for 5 years now and it's been an evolving passion ever since. I'm always looking to add new friends and faces to my table and adventure together. May your blades be strong, and may your d20s be powerful as ever ❤️ I am a Digital Artist, Graphic Designer, and Fiction Writing Enthusiast. Originally born and raised in Mexico, I spent my childhood engrossing myself in fantasy and fiction media, which became my primary hobby and passion as I grew older. Shortly after finishing primary school, I moved to Singapore to continue my education and broaden my horizons. Living in two very distinct and quite literally opposite sides of the world has helped me absorb many interesting sources of folklore and history that I otherwise would've never encountered, as well as meeting new people that altogether have shaped my creative process when writing and creating adventures. Right now I can be found juggling many projects between running 5 different tables as a DM, as well as partaking in some games as a player & writing custom/original content that I hope to publish one day soon! Arriving today at the present, my passion for both DMing and playing has only grown stronger, as I venture out of my comfort zone to try and bring a unique experience of boundless adventure to you.

For a decade, I’ve guided heroes through cursed kingdoms, shattered timelines, and the hearts of gods themselves. I don’t just run games, I craft living stories where players become legends. My journey with Dungeons & Dragons began right after my father passed. While in my grief, my friends offered a space at their table. They offered an escape from reality. I saw how powerful D&D could be. And since then, I have been hooked. In the pandemic, I used Tik Tok as a means to connect to others in the D&D community. I now have 95k followers. I post tips, ideas, and humorous D&D content for both players and Dungeon Masters.

Hey there, adventurers! I go by The Forever DM on Discord, but feel free to call me Nick! I’m 27 years old and have over 13 years of experience playing and running tabletop RPGs, especially D&D and games like it. My style is relaxed, creative, and collaborative. I love running dynamic sandbox campaigns with multiple story threads, tailored to the players’ characters and preferred play styles. Whether it’s a custom world or a published module, I aim to make every session feel personal and engaging. I’m well-versed in both D&D 5e and Pathfinder 2e, and I also run games using the Star Wars 5e conversion. I believe everyone deserves a seat at the table—whether you're a seasoned veteran or brand new to the hobby. My goal is always to create a fun, inclusive space where players feel safe experimenting, exploring, and expressing themselves. My friends know me as a DM who lets chaos reign (within reason!), and I do my best to say “yes, and...” whenever possible. I primarily use Roll20 to run my games, as it's given me the best results in creating immersive, organized sessions. I’ve also run systems like Masks: A New Generation, and I’m always open to learning new ones if it means creating the best experience for my players. More than anything, I want to build lasting memories and foster real camaraderie through shared storytelling. So if that sounds like your kind of table—pull up a chair. Let’s roll some dice and make something unforgettable. All the best, Nick

Consistently one of the most recommended DM's on the site!!! Hello adventurers! I am Mallow, and I hope to be your new favorite DM. I have been playing 5e since 2015-2016 and have garnered a ton of DM experience through running Adventurers League (WotC organized play) at a local shop as well as the big conventions in Phoenix. My style tends to lead to comedy, humor and the "rule of cool" instead of dark, gritty, and RAW. A lot of my style focuses around putting a unique and intriguing twist on some of D&Ds most classic settings and campaigns. [NOTE: My message response rate is at 33% right now, which is actually an error on SPG's part due to an influx of spam on the platform lately. I will 100% respond to your messages, so no worries there.] ------ Hey y'all, it's me Leland, aka Leopold the Just in most social media spaces. I’ve been deeply into tabletop RPGs since the early 2000s, and I still love every second of it. As a GM, I focus on weird stories, haunted places, big emotions, and characters you won’t forget. If you care about storytelling and want a world that reacts to your choices, we’ll get along just fine. What to expect at my table: • Roleplay-first sessions with strong narrative focus • A world that changes based on your actions • Shared storytelling and open worldbuilding • A chill, inclusive space where everyone’s welcome I run everything from cozy slice-of-life games, to bleak horror. Sometimes both in one session! Expect a mix of strange events, deep bonds, and big adventures when I'm running games for you. If that sounds like your kind of game, pull up a virtual seat. Let’s tell some stories together!

Hello! I'd like to share with you my deep and profound love of roleplay! I've been playing D&D and other tabletop roll playing games for over 20 years and have been running games almost as long. I am a deep believer in the philosophy of "play to find out what happens". No outcome is predetermined, the players of my games are fully in the driver seat.

***Beyond the Dice*** *Introduction* In the world of tabletop gaming, dice are often seen as the heart and soul of the experience, determining the outcomes of battles, negotiations, and quests. However, the magic of a great tabletop game extends far beyond the roll of the dice. It encompasses storytelling, character development, strategic planning, and the shared camaraderie between players. This article explores the elements that enrich tabletop games beyond the randomness of dice rolls. *Storytelling and Narrative* A compelling narrative is a cornerstone of any memorable tabletop game. It provides context and depth to the game's events, transforming simple actions into epic storylines. Game masters (GMs) play a crucial role in crafting these narratives, weaving together intricate plots, unexpected twists, and immersive worlds that captivate players' imaginations. *Crafting a World* Creating a believable and engaging world involves detailed world-building. GMs must consider the history, cultures, and political landscapes of their settings, offering players a rich tapestry to explore. This depth allows players to feel more invested in their characters' journeys and the game’s overarching story. *Character Development* Characters are the heart of any roleplaying game. Players invest time and creativity into developing their characters' backgrounds, motivations, and personalities. This development is not static; it evolves as the game progresses and as characters face challenges and grow from their experiences. *Roleplaying* Roleplaying is a dynamic aspect of character development. It involves players embodying their characters, making decisions based on their personalities, and interacting with the game world and other characters. This immersion enhances the overall gaming experience, allowing players to explore different facets of identity and decision-making. *Strategy and Planning* While dice determine the outcomes of specific actions, strategic planning influences the direction of the game. Players engage in tactical decision-making, considering both short-term goals and long-term strategies. This aspect of gaming encourages critical thinking and collaboration, as players must often work together to overcome obstacles. *Problem-Solving* Tabletop games often present complex problems that require creative solutions. Whether it's devising a plan to infiltrate a fortress or negotiating peace between warring factions, players must use their wits and resources to succeed. This problem-solving element adds depth and excitement to the game, challenging players to think outside the box. *Camaraderie and Social Interaction* At its core, tabletop gaming is a social experience. It brings people together, fostering friendships and teamwork. The shared experiences of triumphs and defeats create a sense of camaraderie among players, making the game more than just a series of dice rolls. *Building Relationships* Through the course of a game, players often form strong bonds with each other. These relationships extend beyond the gaming table, as shared experiences and memories forge lasting friendships. The collaborative nature of tabletop games encourages open communication and mutual support among players. *Conclusion* While dice are an integral part of tabletop games, the true magic lies in the elements beyond the dice. Storytelling, character development, strategy, and social interaction all contribute to a rich and fulfilling gaming experience. By embracing these aspects, players and game masters can create unforgettable adventures that resonate long after the dice have been put away.
