About Onyx (Megan)
Some dragons hoard gold. Others hoard gemstones. While I never will turn down such hoards, I hoard stories - a hoard that grows with each passing day. As a long-term roleplay writer, I enjoy creating new stories and curating prewritten ones to fit the tone or purpose of my stories, parties, and games. I have been type-roleplaying for many years, being part of the forum roleplay groups back in the age of Gaia Online and other similar groups. Since then, I have been writing posts that expressed the inner workings, the active actions, and the pointed conversations of hundreds of complex characters. This is only amplified when compiling them together to form a story that is reactive and interactable from a group seeking the next dawn. I have a corgi familiar named Fenrir who often enjoys giving me the Help action and is a mini-celebrity amongst my players, often having a related npc or party pet that represents Fenrir and his antics. I value narrative context and will do my best to fit the mechanics to the narrative you want. This has led me to curating and crafting custom content - often referred to as homebrew - for several games, players, and even other game masters. I do my best to not include AI generated imagery in my live games, choosing to not use such images for advertisement and actively replacing any edge/unknown cases with commissioned pieces, and often support growing artists in my communities. I also do not use AI in any of my play-by-post messages. This provides a raw experience to my creative inspirations.

People are always surprised when I tell them
that I absolutely allow homebrew as long as I can read through it - even player created content. As a curator of homebrew, I'm capable of balancing what you want verses what the campaign limitations are.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Creative, Detailed, Supportive.... Also "Luck Favors Not" was a close fourth.
When I'm not running games I'm...
playing video games, like Monster Hunter Wilds and Phasmophobia. I stream these too!
How Onyx (Megan) runs games
Social I endeavor to make social encounters memorable in ttrpgs. Not only can players get a sense of the world and more information about their situation, but social interactions in stories give characters a sense of self identity and reasons why they do the things they do. However, I fully understand that some folks don't or, in some cases, can't replicate how their character can speak. That's not an issue in my game as long as you can describe to me the point that the character is trying to make and how you plan to do so. Combat To me, combat needs to have a purpose. If the ttrpg uses combat then you should expect combats to have a goal behind them. Whether that is narrative, mechanical, or enjoyment, if I send a combat at you, you can bet that there is a reason. Combats are also dynamic - consider your environment to get the greatest advantage and know that intelligent enemies will do the same. We are here to tell a story and the harsh close combats make some of the greatest ones. Exploration I love survival and exploration aspects of ttrpgs! Each system has its own take on such concepts and they elevate an already desperate situation to force the party to think about their entire situation. However, I only invoke Exploration in campaigns where such details are integral to the mechanics or when encounters found in the Exploration segments hold narrative clues to the story at large. Narration I prefer a theater of the mind storyline where I walk you through narratively and give you a mental image of the world where you are. That way you don't necessarily need more than a phone to enjoy my games. Some games require a little more complex rolls, visualization, or even require some VTT implementation, and in these I do my best to provide the most accurate of images that I can. When it comes to mechanics, I will fit them to the narrative. As long as the table wishes to run with a new rule and it fits narratively, then we can do that! Accessibility I fully recognize that some folks are not fully able to participate in all of my games without a little assistance. I welcome the challenge of setting up more visually demanding games for those who require a visual aid in their narrative, taking longer to process social scenes for those who cannot speak aloud and must type their responses, and even grant extra breaks in games where they are needed for any reason!

I deal with rules issues by...
consulting with the table to find an appropriate solution that the party agrees on. If there is further conflict, I will make a final decision and ask that further questions be had after session in private.
I prep by
listening to music, reading books, and watching historical or educational YouTube videos while setting up maps or looking up scenes.
My games focus on...
the story and narrative being given by the characters. Everything else simply falls into place.
Onyx (Megan)'s ideal table
My ideal table is one that values narrative and story woven characters. Players who have open minds to new mechanics or looking deeper into words stated or given will find a good spot at my table. Those who want to put the mechanics where their characters run will enjoy their time with me.

I think metagaming...
will happen no matter how you play, but that it's important to know when it begins to damage the table experience.
I think min/maxing...
will occur frequently depending on the system. The difference is if everyone has a purpose in the narrative.
My table is not the place for...
Individuals who do not understand what "No" means and will fight every call I make.
