About ☑️Damon, Your Best Friend

"You know, I've always wanted to play D&D, but I've never had a group to play with." Hi, my name is Damon, and I am ready to become your best friend and your favorite dungeon master! Step into my tavern - and allow me curate a tale for you and your fellow travelers - a tale of heroics, misdeeds, tomfoolery, and shenanigans! I've been obsessed with TTRPGs and storytelling ever since I was a CR 1/4. I play with many newcomers and veterans alike, and even ran a campaign for middle-schoolers for their after-school program. All are welcome! With an extensive background in theatre production, writing, and sound design - you can expect a thrilling cinematic story to unfold before you - filled with drama, laughter, glory, and heartbreak. Not to mention fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles… you get it. Did I mention I have 10+ years of providing excellent customer service? Seriously, you might be surprised at how often that comes into play as a professional GM. D&D may be be the biggest game out there, but it's not the only game out there! Feel free to reach out to me if you want to talk about running a system that may be new to you! Find me on Discord and let's chat! damon_thedm Or find me on Roll20! https://app.roll20.net/users/2424802/damon-your-best-friend

How ☑️Damon, Your Best Friend runs games

Playstyle. Here's what you get with me as your GM. I have a very cinematic style of story-telling, making my players characters feel like action-fantasy heroes. I maintain a balance of role-playing, exploration, and combat by doing the following: I like the role-playing to feel genuine, heartfelt, and with plenty of laughter, I like the exploration to feel epic and wondrous, and I like the combat to feel heart-pumping and visceral. From a technical perspective, you can expect varied character voices, accents, and sound effects. I use a combination of custom made and premade/modified battle maps. And of course I always have the perfect soundtrack and even theme songs selected for player characters. I like to create a tangible world that is a living and breathing organism, and a story that everyone has an equal part in telling. I want this to be the fantasy series with you in the starring role! Respect. Respect is the most important factor when it comes to the relationship between the GM and their players, as well as the players with each other. At the (virtual) table we will respect each others' choices, lifestyles, time, and general humanity. It doesn't cost anything to be kind. Expectations. You let me know what your comfort level is and what it is you are hoping to get out of our sessions. It's important that everyone is on the same page when it comes to what everyone's expectations are for the style of gameplay as well as the content involved. Inspiration. My inspiration comes from everywhere: video games, fantasy films and literature, and plenty of my favorite actual play shows and podcasts. I veer towards the side of Dimension 20/NADDPOD in terms of presentation style: fast-paced, over-the-top, mostly comedic - but don't be surprised if you find yourself crying. Homebrew: Recollection If you're interested in my homebrew campaign, I've designed it to be a good fit for newcomers with the intensity and scale growing as the players and player characters are growing. It has been play-tested with 10 different groups, two of which is still together and have been together for three years now. The setting is at it's core a traditional fantasy setting centered around extraplanar threats to the world and is designed it to hit on a few different genres: Mystery, Warfare, Intrigue, Seafaring, Spelunking, Gothic Horror, Lovecraftian Horror, Angels and Devils, Demons and Fey - and of course, Dungeons and Dragons - and at the center of it all - Memories. What does it mean to Live and Die, and what part do our Memories play?

I deal with rules issues by...

If it takes me more than 30 seconds to find the official ruling in the book or online, I will make a call in the moment so as to not take up too much time and we will revisit the ruling when we are not in game. I pretty much stick to RAW but there are plenty of moments where I prefer Rule-of-Cool.

Rules are...

threats made by the dominant socioeconomic-ethnic group in a given nation. It’s just the promise of violence that’s enacted and the police are basically an occupying army. You know what I mean?

When it comes to voices

Voices are welcome highly encouraged at my table! It helps with the immersion and "finding your character" and I do a lot of voices. I want to create a safe and inviting atmosphere so don't be afraid to try something.

☑️Damon, Your Best Friend's ideal table

The most important thing to keep in mind is that your goal is to have fun and to always "yes - and." Players will find themselves to be a good fit at my table as long as they are respectful towards everyone, expect to laugh, and expect to build each other up.

I love it when a player

cares about the world and wishes to ingratiate their character into the world.

I think it's a red flag when players...

don't take any interest in what the other player characters are doing and don't make any effort to involve others in what they are doing.

My table is not the place for...

working out your personal problems that require therapy. I highly encourage therapy for everyone, though, but I am not a therapist. Also there's other people at the table.
