About Yurian/Rufo
With over 25 years of experience as both a player and Game Master, I bring a passion not only for roleplaying itself, but also for exploring new systems, settings, and the art of creating original worlds and campaigns. My tables are built on trust and collaboration—I make use of safety tools to ensure that everyone feels comfortable, and I always strive to tailor the experience to the players themselves. Before a game begins, I like to learn about your interests, themes, and play styles so I can shape the adventure around what excites you most. Session 0 is where we set the tone together, but that dialogue doesn’t stop there: throughout the campaign, I keep adjusting to make sure the story remains engaging and meaningful to the group. Whether it’s diving into a new system, navigating a mysterious setting, or stepping into a world crafted from scratch, I aim to create a space where your characters’ stories matter and the table feels alive.

I got started GMing...
I started GMing because my older cousins asked me to. Before that, I’d made simple homebrews with Dragon Ball figures and HeroQuest. Then they brin MERP and say "We want to play this" and at fourteen, I learned that the stairs of Moria could be deadlier than the Balrog itself.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
Savage Worlds: best generic system for me, all you need to run whatever you need is there. Legend in the Mist: My fantasy core for narrative sessions. Each time I play it it feels better. Traveller: Well, maybe in a desert Island we will be able to complete The Pirates of Drinax.
My favorite books are
Drizzt Do'Urden Saga: The first fantasy I ever read—where it all began and what sparked my love for fantasy and bring me to TTRPGs. Vorkosigan Saga: The best space opera with an amazing main character. Dresden Files: My favorite urban fantasy—Harry remains one of my all-time favorite characters.
How Yurian/Rufo runs games
At the heart of my tables lies a strong focus on theater of the mind and narrative-driven play. I believe that story and immersion should always be present, no matter the system or scenario. That said, I adapt to the preferences of the group: if players enjoy tactical combat, system-heavy challenges, or dungeon crawling, I’ll integrate those elements seamlessly—while still ensuring that narrative and storytelling remain central. I give players as much space as they want to roleplay and bring their characters to life. To support this, I use tools like emergent narrative mechanics and the sharing of narrative authority, encouraging collaborative worldbuilding and character expression. For those who are less comfortable with improvisation or description, I provide guidance and support so everyone feels empowered to participate. Whether it’s through tense combat, a mystery to unravel, or an evocative roleplaying scene, my goal is to create sessions where mechanics and story complement each other, and where the table itself becomes a stage for memorable shared storytelling.

I prep by
I prepare my sessions in advance, reviewing past events and planning possible paths ahead. I make sure everything fits together but always leave space for players to shape the story. Improvisation is just another skill—a tool I practice to keep the game alive and flexible.
My games focus on...
My games focus on narrative, characters, and the shared creation of a rich, meaningful story. Every session is built to draw you in—full of emotion, choices, and unforgettable moments that make your characters’ journey truly come alive.
When it comes to voices
I always do my best to make important NPCs memorable and the less important ones believable, though I know there’s still room for improvement.
Yurian/Rufo's ideal table
My ideal table is one where every player feels part of something truly shared—a living story that belongs to everyone. It’s a space where characters breathe, grow, and surprise even their creators, and where each decision echoes through the world we build together. I love when the theater of the mind takes the lead, when words and imagination paint scenes more vividly than any map could. But I also value the thrill of tactics, the tension of a well-fought battle, and the satisfaction of clever play. My goal is to blend both worlds—so that even in the heat of combat, the story still matters, and every roll of the dice feels like part of the narrative heartbeat. At my ideal table, laughter and tension coexist, and even quiet moments matter. The dice tell part of the story, but the heart of it lies in the people around the table—their imagination, their trust, and their willingness to explore something unknown together. That’s where the magic truly happens.

I love it when a player
Surprise both the table and herself through the actions and decisions of her character. I love when her eyes shine with emotion in that moment, and her expressions reveal so much about both the player and the character.
I think it's a red flag when players...
For me, red flags are players who disrespect others, ignore safety tools, or try to dominate the table. RPGs are about collaboration and trust. If someone refuses to listen, share the spotlight, or care for the group’s fun, that’s where the problem begins.
I think metagaming...
Metagaming can enrich the story when used with care—helping pacing, tension, or collaboration. But it should never replace character choices or break immersion. Used in moderation, it becomes a tool to enhance the game, not control it.
