Lancer
Lancer is set 15,000 years from the present day, where a revolutionary interplanetary state, Union, struggles to win a better world for the whole of humanity. You’ll not see the project complete, but you’ll put your shoulder to the wheel, struggle, and advance. There are many pilots in the galaxy, but only one of you. Your character is a lancer, a mech ace renowned for their skill in their machine. Developed half a millennia prior to the current day of Lancer’s setting, mechanized chassis — mechs — have redefined how war is fought across the Orion Arm. Under your command, your mech is a weapon unparalleled, and with your mech and your comrades by your side, you’ll write your own story.

An amazing detailed setting with evocative artwork, streamlined integration with foundry Vtt, a slew of player options for those who love to tinker with builds, a combat system that feels like a crunchy mech battle but with less rules than other similarly themed systems; and some great first party and third party modules your groups can play through! Lancer is a bit lacking though when it comes to handling situations outside of combat making it less of an "RP" game out of the box; and properly balancing encounters can take some getting used to with the novel way it handles NPCs. But even with those flaws I have had nothing but good experiences with this system, you just need to be aware of what you are getting into.
If you like mecha combat and big cool abilities then this game may be right for you. I found the character creation fun and very interesting with all the options. Me and my wife really had a great time making our characters. The combat is interesting and after you learn it I think there is a lot of potential for great battles. My only recommendation would be to find a good GM for the game because with out someone that knows what they are doing and is willing to teach you the rules patiently this game system is hard. Con takes time to learn and understand.
LANCER is a fantastic evolution of crunchy combat systems like D&D 4th Edition, Exalted, and Pathfinder/Starfinder. The setting is a kitchen sink assortment of far-future tropes, so you have a lot of room to find a place intended for whatever kinds of stories you want to tell. There is a lot of room for numerous builds to shine, but the math is tight enough that completely broken mechanics are few and far between. And there are numerous 1st- and 3rd-party supplement for new adventures and new settings. Highly recommended!
A great system for those who want a tactical experience with a wide variety of Mechs inspired by Gundam, Armored Core, Evangelion and other media. I would classify this system as rules crunchy. There are a lot of details that need to be considered when running Mech fights and that is the main thing about the game. Running it in VTTs with some level of automation helps speed up the game The released modules seem to reinforce the focus on Mech combat for the game, as well as the fact that there is very little to your pilot sheet. The variety of mechs and types is certainly a draw to the system. You can emulate Mechs from very different media all in the same story
Lancer is, first and foremost, a game about building mechs and putting them to the test in crunchy, tactical encounters. It succeeds brilliantly at this, but it takes a talented GM to really make it shine in the context of a campaign. The good news is if you're looking for a game on StartPlaying, you're probably going to find one!
