It’s time for another news roundup from StartPlaying, the place to find TTRPG games today! This is going to be a great one for those of you who prefer indies to Dungeons & Dragons.

In this week’s news: Coyote & Crow successfully fund VTT expansions, Apocalypse World announced a new version, Pathfinder reveals its first 2026 hardcover AP, and WotC’s president commented on how they view physical vs. digital.

Coyote & Crow Ahu Tiiko Coming To VTT, Funding Actual Play Show

via Kickstarter

Coyote & Crow will soon be adding its Ahu Tiiko expansion to Roll20 and Foundry thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. The Coyote & Crow Digital Kickstarter was started to expand the game’s reach in response to the ongoing tariff situation in the US. The creators hope to make Coyote & Crow more widely accessible by getting its first expansion on two of the biggest VTTs out there. Now they’re working on funding new Coyote & Crow actual play content with stretch goals. For this purpose, Coyote & Crow Games is partnering with Many Sided Media and Tales Yet Told for an Ahu Tiiko podcast series.

Apocalypse World 3rd Edition Coming To Kickstarter

via Kickstarter

The game that started Powered by the Apocalypse is getting an update. Apocalypse World, a game where you navigate a post-apocalyptic setting using 2d6, seeks to crowdfund a new edition. A Kickstarter page recently appeared for Apocalypse World: Burned Over, or Apocalypse World 3e. It comes from Apocalypse World creator Vincent Baker. The Kickstarter page is currently in the "Launching Soon” phase with about 1500 followers as of this writing. Apocalypse World introduced the PbtA system, which is used for popular games like Monster of the Week and Legend in the Mist

Pathfinder Hellbreakers Is the First Quarterly Hardcover

via Paizo

A Pathfinder 2E Adventure Path called Hellbreakers will be the first product of Paizo’s new quarterly publishing model. As we reported last week, Pathfinder is switching from putting out monthly softcover adventures to quarterly hardcovers. The move was made for several reasons, one of which is to save consumers money. By combining three publications into one, the page count and therefore price goes down. Hellbreakers will come out in March 2026, sporting the new $79.99 price point. The campaign goes from level 1-10, and will have players stage a rebellion against an infernal oppressor.

WotC President Wants Digital And Physical To Work Together

There’s been a lot of worry after the whole “One D&D” thing that Wizards of the Coast is trying to force Dungeons & Dragons into a subscription-based digital model. It didn’t help assuage fears when D&D Beyond axed a-la-carte purchases in favor of bundles with pre-order perks. However, new WotC president John Hight insists that his aim is for digital and physical to feed into one another.

In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, Hight talked about his idea of a franchise model where all D&D is under one roof. He speaks of how many newer DnD players missed out on in-person play due to COVID, and so could be served by having digital tools more easily help them get to a real table. "What I want us to be able to do is have players move fairly seamlessly between in person play and online play."

That puts an end to this week’s news roundup! Looking forward to seeing what results from Pathfinder’s new era. Whatever you play this weekend, may your dice be kind.

Sergio Solórzano is the best Dungeon Master in the USA (according to a Wizards of the Coast competition, anyway). He loves minis and terrain but also goes all-in on improv!
