About the adventure

Ever wanted to play Call of Cthulhu but have been too nervous to try or been unable to find a gaming group to play with? Great news! You have found just the spot to dive into this amazing system. A dedicated and experienced Keeper (Cthulhu for Game Master) will be available to help you with everything from start to finish, including character creation, back story exploration, and ensuring that the rules are well interpreted and explained to you! We will be diving into the the spooky and haunting "Mansions of Madness" module "The Crack'd and Crook'd Manse" described below! "Long considered to be a cursed place by the folk of Gamwell, it seems the Fitzgerald Manse has finally escaped its sordid past. But, no one’s seen the new owner, Arthur Cornthwaite, for quite some time. Is history repeating itself?" I provide a warm and welcoming environment that may have serious moments of roleplay but never anything too serious around the table. I believe that inclusivity and expression breed the best gaming groups. Though we may poke fun at each other, there is no room for discrimination or malice. All are encouraged to come as they are knowing that the only real peril will be what dragon they wish to slay next! All games are played online using maps and tokens on Roll20. Communication is facilitated through voice or video zoom and direct discussion outside of games is done using the the discord forum provided by the Keeper!

Additional Details

How to prepare

Use of a microphone is strongly encouraged to allow for roleplay. Additionally, use of video could also be important if all players agree upon it. Understanding of basic rules for whatever class and heritage the player creates will be important but videos and materials will be included as part of the welcome packet. The game master will also be available to discuss and clarify through the discord forum. I always recommend having your own dice or favorite virtual dice roller, a system for taking notes and a beverage of choice. You will be required to make a Roll20 and Discord account. Both of these are free for the player but will maximize the experience that is being provided. You will also be required to download zoom, though you do not need to make a profile as the keeper will provide a link. In addition becoming familiar with Roll20's user interface will be strongly encouraged but the Keeper will be there to answer any questions

What I provide

I will bring all prep needs, general knowledge about the system and facilitating all communication and Roll20 set up and maintenance. I believe in bringing everything to the table except the PCs so that players truly can feel that they are set off on an adventure and don't have to worry about anything outside of having fun! I utilize a number of things to keep you in the game including in game ambience music, utilizing a variety of voices andclues that are kept in your handout sections so you feel like you have actually collected something In addition to supplying detailed break downs of where to find relevant information, tools and materials for the player side. Being brand new can be daunting and I relish the opportunity to navigate a new player through the maze and sometimes confusing rules of a tabletop roleplaying game!

Gameplay details

Though the game has some spooky themes and a few scares, those things are meant to stay on the table and never amongst the players. In keeping with that general idea I do not allow at my table hate speech, unwarranted player vs player combat, any sort of sexual violence, or abuse of innocent characters both other players and in game characters. Ensuring that these guidelines are followed prevents bullying and allows players to relax and enjoy a great cosmic horror adventure! We do adhere to rules at my table but as Keeper I promise to make sure to keep things rolling and not get bogged down in the nitty gritty. I am a big fan of "We will play it like that and look it up later!" Rule of cool is always important and so is the making sure we are all having fun.

How will character creation work

Character creation will first be done individually and then all things will be tied together during a session zero. Trying to sculpt the players vision of their ideal adventurer is all part of the process. Though there may be some limits due to the constraints of the games rules, it is very important to me that all parties come out of the process satisfied. Construction of backstory and inter party narrative can also be just as important including introductions or players to one another to ensure a relaxed and casual atmosphere. Session zeros can also be a great place to set ground rules and allow an opportunity for a discussion of expectations amongst the players and the Keeper.
