Heralds of the Storm
Dungeons & Dragons 5e on Fantasy Grounds
About the adventure
The Lucian Empire’s capital is sunk to the bottom of sea. It’s previous leaders have scattered under multiple banners, seeking to stake a claim in a new political landscape. During the internal dissension, bandits, raiders and beast men have grown bold, successfully taking several smaller fortress on the borders of the once sprawling nation. Incoming refugees speak of worse horrors encountered on the roads. This game will be a sandbox made for what the players want to do. I’ll present you with different challenges and NPC’s to interact with. What you choose to do from there is up to you. We’ll craft everyone’s backstories and depending on what and who you help or don’t help, the story will build from there!
How to prepare
Having a webcam for gotomeeting if preferred. Having fantasy grounds downloaded and ready to go. You’ll only need the free version to join the sessions. Creating a character ahead of time won’t be necessary because we’ll be doing that at the first session.
What I provide
Everything the players need, such as maps, stats, item hand outs will be provided in fantasy grounds. This will be an online character sheet for everyone but if you prefer rolling actual dice or keeping track of you character on old school pen and paper, go for it.
Player buy-in is the biggest thing here. This is going to be a pretty straight up sandbox style game. Give me some ideas during that first session to build on and we can make it happen. I’ll set up the first town with some NPC’s to interact with. There won’t necessarily be any quests given specifically at first but there will be plenty of adventure to be had. Did you want to pursue that rumor about a valuable artifact in a nobles home? Let’s do it! Do you want to slay goblins raiding a town with a blazin fireball? Flame on! The higher level the PC’s get the more there will be on the line in terms of treasure, famed experience and danger!

How will character creation work
Characters begin at level 2. The first session will be a character building session and include some introduction to the world of Rutalia. Since it’s a homebrew you’ll need to learn about the world and find a place for your character to fit in it.
