Ryan is a fantastic Game Master -- attentive, encouraging, and incredibly creative. he's always happy to help with character creation and takes the time to explain everything clearly. his sessions are beautifully structured and full of detail, offering a perfect mix of roleplay, strategy, and action. as a huge dinosaur fan, I absolutely loved his dino race adventure -- it was clever, chaotic in the best way, and a blast to play. he makes sure every player feels involved and valued, regardless of experience level. I'll gladly join any of his future adventures and highly recommend his games to players of all levels !
I played with Ryan at the local library, and we had an awesome time at the dino race! None of the players new each other beforehand, but we were all engaged, and he encouraged us to work together. It also wasn't a problem that we needed to check with the rules sometimes, and he could answer them easily. One of the players at the table wanted to play a flying race and even though this made the race difficult for him to execute he allowed it and nicely worked around it :D
Ryan and Josh introduced us to a great new game. It seemed complicated and daunting at first, but once they started, it was a breeze! We have never had so much fun playing games. We usually gather once a month to play with friends, but playing with Ryan and Josh leveled up our gaming tenfold. We invited them back to DM a custom DND game. We had a mix of children and adults, different races, genders, and everyone felt included, safe, and engaged. It was so immersive and exciting. They are so good at this! We are still referencing that game with inside jokes and great memories. Ryan and Josh are friendly, fun, organized game experts. I cannot wait to play with them again! I tell all my friends to hire them. They’re that good!
I have played multiple one shots (DnD/PF2) with Ryan as DM. He gives a lot of room for creative solutions, which leads to rewarding moments that feel earned. Some of the games have been with people new to the TTRPG scene. In these games he has helped out the newer players understand the game. If you are new to TTRPGs, he has more than enough patience to explain the rules when it is unclear.
Character creation
Creating your character
Players should arrive to session 0 with an idea of what characters they like from media to build a character around. We will review the classes in the 2024 Player's Handbook, party composition (optional), and work together to build a crew of friends and adventurers! Pre-generated characters will be provided for those who find creating a character from scratch daunting so that all skill levels can have fun!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will use Discord for voice calls and Foundry for virtual tabletop play. You will need a microphone and account for Discord, but both can be used directly from your browser or downloaded (optional).

How Ryan - Tafelavontuur creates a safe table
This table is built on trust, kindness, and curiosity. I’ve worked with many first-time players and folks from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ players, those exploring the hobby for the first time, and kids. I want everyone at the table to feel seen, respected, and free to enjoy the game however they want to engage. I use Session 0, safety tools, and private onboarding calls to make that happen. Every new player gets a brief one-on-one meeting with me before joining. This is a low-pressure space where we talk about expectations, comfort zones, and accessibility needs. During sessions, I check in regularly and maintain open communication, so anyone can speak up if something doesn’t feel right to make sure this table is the right fit for you and that everyone shares respect for one another. You deserve a space where you can show up fully as yourself!
