Welcome back to tabletop RPG news updates with StartPlaying! Here we try to give you all the biggest updates on the business and culture of our favorite hobby in one short burst so you can get back to rolling dice. In this week’s top stories, WizKids brought out glow-in-the-dark DnD minis, an RPG production giant went bankrupt, and Withers finally got official big naturals.

WizKids Reveals Glow-In-The-Dark Miniatures For Dungeons & Dragons

Official DnD toy distributor WizKids announced a set of Underdark-themed miniatures this week with a patented DungeonGlo effect. Well, maybe not patented, but it does sound like the stuff of a nostalgic 90s toy commercial. The set, D&D Icons of the Realms: Underdark Expeditions, will feature certain figures that glow with sickly green effects like the gas spore shared by EN World. There will also be well-known DnD cave creatures like hook horrors and gelatinous cubes in the set. Expect to see it online and on store shelves in May.

Alliance Game Distributors Sold Off Amidst Bankruptcy Filing

Diamond Comic Distributors is filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy and in the process is selling its gaming arm Alliance. The deal is set for Alliance Game Distributors to be sold to Universal Distribution. It’s all a complicated process and uncertain how it will affect products at the consumer level.

What is known is that Alliance was in charge of distribution for DnD and Pathfinder miniatures for WizKids. Diamond also goes out owing hundreds of thousands of dollars to big TTRPG companies like Wizards of the Coast, Army Painter Ap5, and Catalyst Game Labs. This could perhaps influence decisions these companies make later in the year.

Larian Celebrates Baldur's Gate 3 Modding In A Big Way

Larian Studios thanked players for reaching the milestone of 100 million mods downloaded for its hit game Baldur’s Gate 3 with a truly bizarre gift. Mods are fan-made alterations to certain aspects of the game such as available weapons, playable classes, and even character appearances. And BG3 fans hold one character appearance mod firmly in their hearts: Withers with big naturals.

The mod does as the title says and gives the undead mage a pronounced bosom. And now Larian has added this busty Withers mod to its list of official mods. This not only exposes it to more people but also makes it available for console players whereas it’s been restricted by various hardware companies’ rules. But for the sake of a good laugh and love for the fans, Larian unleashed Withers’ naturals upon the world.

And with that strange story, we’re off! If you enjoy reading our news breakdowns, consider sticking around and playing games to help those affected by the LA wildfires. As always, thanks for reading and may your dice be kind.
