Hello and welcome to the latest edition of our TTRPG news roundup! This week in the tabletop world: A new DnD video game is in development from a Star Wars Game Director, Mike Mearls leaves Chaosium but stays on RuneQuest, WotC is looking for a new pair of DnD leads, and Troll Lord reforged its Adventurers Backpack for Castles & Crusades. Let’s get into the details!Â
New DnD Video Game On The Way From Star Wars Jedi Director
Wizards of the Coast continues its renewed interest in Dungeons & Dragons video games, reports Variety, this time with a single-player action-adventure game. The game is being worked on by developer Giant Skull. CEO of Giant Skull Stig Asmussen has some impressive credits, including Game Director on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as well as God of War III. This game joins other DnD titles WotC has in the pipeline, including a town builder from Gameloft.
Mike Mearls Part Of New RuneQuest Edition, Leaving Chaosium For Asmodee
Chaosium Inc. announced several personnel switches this week, including replacing the CEO position. It used to be Mike Mearls after his exit from Wizards of the Coast and comments about the current state of DnD. Mearls will now be heading to Asmodee for a full-time role, reports EN World. In an interesting development, however, Mearls will continue to work with Chaosium on certain projects, with a new edition of RuneQuest mentioned specifically.Â
WotC Hiring Two New Lead Positions For DnD
Anyone looking to work on Dungeons & Dragons check this out (and have almost a decade of experience in game design): WotC posted job listings for two new lead positions on Linkedin. One is for a Head of Game Ecosystem that is about keeping consistency across both physical and digital releases, ensuring that the rules are heeded across the brand. The other is a Principal Game Designer tasked with leading the design team in putting out major releases. These seem to be similar roles to what Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins were doing before they left the DnD team earlier this year.Â
Castles & Crusades Adventurers Backpack Reforged Hits BackerKit
Troll Lord Games let loose a BackerKit campaign for a new edition of Adventurers Backpack for the Castles & Crusades TTRPG. The expansion is already well past its funding goal and offers 14 new classes that go to 24th level. There’s also multiclassing rules, new magic battle systems, and dogs! The campaign just started and will continue throughout June.Â
That’s all we have for this week! Thanks as always for reading, and may your dice be kind.Â
