It’s been a chaotic week for a lot of us, and unfortunately our favorite escapism hobby wasn’t spared. As tariffs continue to go back and forth, gaming companies face the harsh reality of manufacturing costs going way up. We the consumers are definitely going to feel the pain as well, with this week’s news hinting at exactly what will cost more.

Tariffs on China won’t affect books for now, the world’s largest dungeon is holding a contest for aspiring writers, Chris Perkins retired from DnD, and Dragon Delves includes solo play options.

The ever-evolving situation with US tariffs and how they might affect the gaming industry hit another crucial point this week. While most tariffs are seeing a pause, the White House announced a tariff on goods from China set at 125% starting Wednesday April 9. The biggest market hit by this will likely be figures and collectibles as well as TTRPG accessories included in Kickstarters. Actual RPG books are unaffected at the moment, as part of an exemption for printed items.

Chris Perkins Retires From Dungeons & Dragons

DnD mainstay Christopher Perkins announced his retirement from Wizards of the Coast. In a BlueSky post, Perkins called the 50th anniversary year and the sales success of the 2024 rulebooks a “fairytale ending.” He worked for WotC for 28 years in varying roles, ending as a Senior Story Editor for DnD 5E and Game Architect on DnD 2024. He says that he now looks forward to playing the game as a fan and that he feels it's in good hands.

Dragon Delves Includes Adventures For "Solo Play"

via WotC

WotC is putting out teases for the upcoming DnD anthology book Dragon Delves. The collection features ten adventures centered around dragons in dungeons. According to a report by EN World, three of the adventures featuring metallic dragons mention being “appropriate for a solo player.” According to an interview with designer James Wyatt, this version of solo play is for one player with the DM as a sort of last resort for when people suddenly can't make it to a session. Dragon Delves releases on July 8.

Personally, I’m very much looking forward to Dragon Delves. I got a lot of dragon minis and I can’t wait to use them! But until then thanks for reading, and may your dice be kind.
