October is here, bringing the spooky season into full swing (although let’s face it, I saw people bringing out the witch hats as early as last week). While you’re busy planning out your horror one-shots for Halloween, you may not have the time to keep up with the latest tabletop gaming news. StartPlaying’s got you covered; here come the biggest stories of the week!Â
PETA Releases DnD Subclasses Themed Around Nonviolence
We’ve all got that one friend that always tries to roll Persuasion and avoid DnD combat, and it looks like PETA has them covered. Yes, animal rights activist group PETA released three free DnD subclasses themed around their goals. They can be downloaded here.
There’s a Circle of Empathy Druid that charms targets with their persuasive words and can make others magically witness how their actions affect nature. The Oath of Animal Liberation Paladin can make allied animals immune to all damage and even create a space where humanoids cannot use animals for riding or carrying. The Warden of the Wild Ranger does get aggressive by debuffing foes that would hunt animals, but is still mostly themed around shielding animals from harm.Â
Baldur's Gate 3 Cast To Perform Together Using 2024 Rules
A D&D Live event is set for MCM Comic-Con London and features four of the BG3 party members. Neil Newbon (Astarion), Devora Wilde (Lae'zel), Theo Solomon (Wyll) and Samantha BĂ©art (Karlach) will team up once more for a stage show called “What We Do in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.” An unknown special guest Dungeon Master will guide the four through the 2024 rules, marking the first time a D&D Live event uses them. The show takes place on the Main Stage on Sunday, October 27.Â
Newbon and BĂ©art have reprised their roles as Astarion and Karlach for an official DnD live show before. Their characters were also focal points of Project Sigil, WotC’s upcoming 3D VTT. This, combined with the announcement of official BG3 minis, show that WotC is really looking to use the hit game to bolster interest in the 2024 rules.Â
Wizards Of The Coast Previews 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide
We’ve had the 2024 Player’s Handbook on store shelves (some stores more than others) for a whole two weeks, so that means it’s time to start marketing the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide! WotC is using the same format it used to market the 2024 PHB, with videos every few days breaking down key components of the new book followed by a D&D Beyond article.Â
The first batch of information detailed the various sections that make up the 2024 DMG. There will be advice for DMs of all experience levels, an updated Bastion ruleset, over 400 magical items with crafting rules, premade adventures with maps, a Greyhawk setting guide, and a DnD Lore Glossary.Â

That’s all we’ve got for this week! Enjoy your games this weekend, and may your dice be kind.Â
