It’s the end of another week full of exciting tabletop RPG news! And we’ve got the quick summaries for you here so you can get back to TPKing.

This week: Octopath Traveler TTRPG gets English release, the upcoming Greyhawk book by Luke Gygax will not involve WotC designers, Draw Steel’s VTT launches in Early Access, and WizKids reveals new DnD player character minis.

Octopath Traveler TTRPG Sets Off In October

via Dark Horse

The Square Enix RPG series Octopath Traveler will venture from video game to tabletop game later this year. Dark Horse Books has the license to publish an English version of Octopath Traveler TRPG Rulebook for retail release on October 6, 2026. According to IcV2, the book already exists in Japan. It’s a 2d6 system with a 328-page rulebook. The Dark Horse translation will retail for $59.99 when it hits store shelves.

Draw Steel VTT Now Available Via Steam Early Access

via Steam

Draw Steel Codex can now be purchased for PC and Mac through Steam. This is the official Virtual Tabletop for the Draw Steel RPG, albeit still in its Early Access period. In its current form, the Codex contains core rules for Heroes and Monsters, as well as The Delian Tomb starter adventure. GMs can build maps with dynamic lighting in the software or import their own. Those wishing to play with a group must make sure each player has purchased a copy of Codex for their own device.

WizKids To Release Minis Based On 2024 Player Characters

via WizKids

Two new sets of DnD miniatures for player characters are coming this July from WizKids. These figures are based on the art in the 2024 Player’s Handbook for the various classes. They are reported to retail at $29.99 for a pack of six pre-painted minis. One pack will be called Spells & Steel, while another is called Swords & Staves

New Greyhawk Book Won't Include WotC Staff, Might Be Part Of A Series

A writer on the upcoming Greyhawk book shared that the product is not being worked on by Wizards of the Coast designers, but does use the 5.5e/2024 rules. Luke Gygax first revealed the book as a collaboration between him and WotC, with Melf’s Guide to Greyhawk being the title. The book was hailed by WotC’s Dan Ayoub as a return to tradition with the Gygax name being involved.

Now, creator Jay Scott claims that the full title is Melf's Guide to Greyhawk: The Borderlands of Iuz. Scott is on the book’s writing team, and clarifies that this title is set to be “Book 1” of a series. Scott also mentioned that the book is being written outside the purview of the DnD Team at WotC (so likely a DMs Guild product), but is still being considered official D&D Greyhawk content. Lastly, Scott expressed excitement at returning to Greyhawk’s “gritty” roots.

I’m looking forward to adding those minis to my collection! I love the art in the 2024 DnD core books. Until next week, may your dice be kind.

Sergio Solórzano is the best Dungeon Master in the USA (according to a Wizards of the Coast competition, anyway). He loves minis and terrain but also goes all-in on improv!
