A big headline kicks off this week’s events in the tabletop RPG space, so let’s get right to it!

This week: the Dungeons & Dragons team unionizes with the Magic: The Gathering team, Star Wars DnD will get its own dedicated adventure set in the OT, Dark Sun’s revival includes a graphic novel, and Shadowrun is set to release a rules light version next month.

DnD Team Moves To Unionize

via UWOTC

The employees behind Dungeons & Dragons, D&D Beyond, Magic: The Gathering, and Duel Masters announced they are unionizing with the Communication Workers of America. In the announcement, the workers cite the recent unionization of the MTG Arena team as inspiration. They also explain that they are seeking protection against AI, fair wages, access to remote work, and more. One unique note is that artists are asking for ownership over work created outside of work hours, which is apparently not the case already. Wizards of the Coast has until October 13 to voluntarily recognize this union.

DnD/Star Wars Crossover Comes With Two Books

via WotC

WotC revealed that there will be two books for the DnD Star Wars Universes Beyond crossover: a core book and an adventure. The core rules book will of course contain character options, items, and hopefully ship stats. The adventure is called Tyro Squadron and puts players in the role of a Rebel Alliance crew. Details were scant, but it promises a classic Rebellion vs. Empire Original Trilogy story. Art was shared at New York Comic Con, and can be seen on EN World.

Dark Sun Graphic Novel Coming In 2027

via Dark Horse

Dark Horse will publish a graphic novel trilogy based in the DnD Dark Sun setting. The first, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun, hits shelves on April 20, 2027. The plot follows a classic Dark Sun tale of a gladiator fighting to free themselves from confinement in the city of Tyr. Dan Abnett is the writer while Nil Vendrell is behind the illustrations. Volume One clocks in at 56 pages as a hardcover and will cost $17.99, reports ICv2.

Rules Light Shadowrun Hits Shelves Next Month

via ICv2

A rules light version of Shadowrun called Anarchy is coming to store shelves on November 11. The book, titled Shadowrun: Anarchy 2.0 Core Rulebook, is meant to deliver a more narrative-focused version of the game. It achieves this by boiling down the Sixth Edition rules into a faster and more streamlined set of guidelines. Anarchy 2.0 also aims to be a single purchase, not relying on any other core books or expansions to run a complete game. Shadowrun: Anarchy 2.0 Core Rulebook will retail for $49.99.

That’s it for this week! I hope next week I’ll be reporting on good news for the DnD union effort! Until then, may your dice be kind.

Sergio Solórzano is the best Dungeon Master in the USA (according to an official D&D competition, anyway). He loves minis and terrain but also goes all-in on improv!
