Another week down, another batch of tabletop RPG news to go over! This week: Critical Role announced a Daggerheart mini-campaign, Paizo revealed a Pathfinder dating card game, Barnes & Noble revealed the existence of unknown Pathfinder/Starfinder books, and a BG3 artist had a bone to pick with WizKids.
Critical Role's Next Campaign Is Daggerheart Dark Fantasy
The main cast of Critical Role is filling the summer with a mini-series using their new Daggerheart system. The eight part campaign takes place in the Dark Souls-inspired Age of Umbra setting where magical corruption haunts the land and resurrects the dead in unending cycles. The session zero episode airs on May 22, just two days after Daggerheart releases. Those looking to try Daggerheart alongside the Age of Umbra series can find Day One games here on StartPlaying. We have Learn To Play one-shots, brand new campaigns, and custom games with pro GMs.
Pathfinder Dating Sim Game Due Out This Fall

Paizo has pre-orders up for a romance-themed Pathfinder card game, reports Icv2. It’s titled Pathfinder Monster Match! Card Game and is due out on October 1. It’s meant to be a fast-paced game for two-to-six players where everyone tries to score points by matchmaking various Pathfinder creatures. The description suggests dating sim tropes such as sending gifts and keeping tabs on the progress of the monster relationships. It will cost $39.99 at retail.
Barnes & Noble Outs New Pathfinder & Starfinder Books
The folks over at Bell of Lost Souls discovered the existence of two upcoming Paizo books from pre-order pages on Barnes & Noble. The first, for Pathfinder 2E, is Draconic Codex. It looks to add new dragon stat blocks, new draconic character creation options, and themed gear. The other book is for Starfinder 2E, called Alien Core 2. It is a simple expansion that adds over 200 creatures to the latest edition of Starfinder (and Pathfinder by extension). Both books are listed as releasing on December 1.
Baldur's Gate 3 Artist Unhappy With Main Character Miniatures

The Senior Cinematic Artist of BG3 took to Twitter to express dissatisfaction with their set of WizKids miniatures. The set in question was the Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Boxed Set that includes the main party members and Withers. The artist showed close-up pictures detailing the paint job on the figures, calling it the work of a five-year-old. Other purchasers shared similar complaints about their same sets. It’s a shame that such a highly-anticipated set turned out this way as WizKids usually brings stellar paint quality to their DnD releases. If you still have hope of bringing Shadowheart, Astarion, and the rest to your table, you could always order the BG3 unpainted minis and do it yourself.
UPDATE 5/17: WizKids released a statement of apology and is offering refunds on the Character Boxed Set.
Some unusual stories this week, definitely a fun batch to write about. Until next time – may your dice be kind!
