Humblewood: Of Fate and Flame
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
There have been disturbing signs over the last few months, signalling that something is wrong in the Humblewood. The troubles appear to originate from activity in the Scorched Grove: an ashen plain that was ravaged many centuries ago by a destructive fire. Whatever caused the fire has scarred the land with elemental magic, making it inhospitable to all but strange fire-based creatures. Of late, the Grove has begun to expand. At first, it was hard to notice the slow expansion, but those in tune with nature (especially the Tenders) could see the imbalance in the elemental forces of Humblewood. For many common folk, this imbalance has been experienced as unseasonal dryness, which has led to crop failure and an increased frequency of forest fires. There have also been a number of unusually aggressive emberbat clouds reported far outside of their natural ranges. As Village Elders quickly run out of people to turn to, it would be most fortuitous indeed if a band of adventurers were to show up. Humblewood is an incredibly dense setting. There is no end to what you can do, people you can meet or trouble you can get into. In fact there is so much going on, you most likely won't see most of it unless you leave no stone or leaf unturned. Much of the adventure will see you forging a path through the Humblewood or soaring high above it, facing all manor of dastardly bandits and explosive ember elementals. And in stark contrast to most official DnD adventures, the stakes are fairly low, as no one is really out to kill anyone, at least not at first. It's a quest unlike any other, in a world where you and your friends are truly part of the community at large. This setting is tailor-made for throwing interesting and bizarre situations at players to see what they do with them, building character all the while. It looks to be an absolute blast and I can't wait to share it with you.

Waterdeep with doily was my first DND game ever. I was expecting a lot, and boy did he deliver. The campaign was well paced with heavy rp and combat with plenty of room for shenanigans and curveballs along the way. Doily is not just an incredible DM, he's an all around great person too. Every session is exciting, fun, and the highlight of my week. We've moved on to a sequel campaign, and with this one he is expertly creating a world that has been affected by our party's actions, with storylines that are tailored to each of us. Cannot recommend enough!!
Doily is easily the best DM I've found online since I started playing a few years ago. I've been playing D&D with him through a few different campaigns (some modules, some homebrewed) over the last year and a half. He knows all the rules, allows some rules of cool scenarios, always keeps things moving well and spreads the focus across all players, includes background details you provide, and lets the players form the story and adjusts accordingly. 11/10 would recommend.
I have been playing with Doily for over a year now. He is the only DM I use on this site after sifting through a couple others and I have to say he's the best DM I have EVER played with. He allows the party to tell the story and goes along for the ride. He has given me some of my favorite TTRPG moments and experiences. RIP Tenzun.
Doily has the amazing ability to use whatever information and intent you have for a charecter and implement it seamlessly into his games wether it's running a pre-built adventure or an entirely homebrewed world if you give him 1 sentence or 3 pages of charecter info he will make sure that there are things in this world for you. It's a hard balancing act to make all the characters in these games feel special on there own right but doily can and does do it with seemingly no effort. He has made several stories that I will hold dear for years to come and I believe that he reciprocate the efforts of others. 10/10 absolute legend of a DM

How to prepare
There are only four mandatory elements at my table, a Discord Account (And preferably installed onto your PC, though you are welcome to use the browser extension) as I run all of my games through there, a DnDBeyond account, a Mural account (I will discuss further in session 0) and a working Microphone. From there, I use Talespire to run all my combat encounters, which is free for players to engage with via Discord Streaming. I am happy to use webcams as well, but I understand not every group is comfortable using them. This is something that can be discussed in session 0. While knowing the rules ahead of time will certainly make my job much easier, it is not essential, as one of the best ways to learn DnD is by doing.
What I provide
I design all of the maps we will use in game myself, either from scratch or based on the dungeon designs from the various DnD Adventure books. This way, I can ensure they are exactly what I want them to be every time. I also have access to all official content via DnDBeyond, which I will share with the group at the start of Session 0.
Gameplay details
Games at my table often include descriptions of graphic violence, swearing and other such adult themes. As part of every game I run, I ask my players to fill in an anonymous tabletop safety form, as well as facilitating a free session 0 to discuss the results from the form as well as discuss any further topics raised by the form or the players themselves. I also run a 'Red Card Rule' at my table, in that any participant can call 'Red Card' at any time for any reason, and everyone will step away to talk about whats occurred, sort out the best way we can move forward, and go from there. Finally, I am open to be contacted on my Discord both in and outside of scheduled games to answer any questions or problems you may have. Doily the DM Discord: DoilytheDM#5045

How will character creation work
This game will start at level 1 and go up to level 20. Character creation will begin during and after session 0. This allows me to explain and confirm any homebrew rules we will use at the table, as well as give a more detailed idea of the setting and themes with everyone, before anyone begins making their characters. This also allows me to help anyone who needs it for character creation while I am there. I will then give everyone a week (or two as needed/discussed) to finalize their characters. Over this time, I will be available via my Discord for anyone who needs additional assistance/has backstory queries. Once everyone is happy and set, we'll dive in with Session 1!
