About the adventure

In a cold village by the winter sea, all the town’s children vanished last night. Their parents woke to find empty beds and wailed inconsolably. Now in their rage they’ve formed a mob to burn a local witch—but is she really the one behind the crime? Brave the frozen sea and otherworldly fog to find the answer before the lost children run out of time. THE FROST SPIRE is a level 3 adventure for 2-6 heroes of any background, whether D&D veterans or first-timers. Sharp wits, careful investigation, and cunning plans will win the day over brute force solutions. This adventure will run 1-2 sessions and can be enjoyed as a standalone or a springboard to future campaigns.

How to prepare

We’ll be running the adventure over 1-2 sessions entirely through Discord video chat, for which you’ll need only a free Discord account and a webcam. Once you sign up for our game, you’ll be sent a link to the private Discord server. Each game session will last around 2-4 hours, with 20 minutes at the beginning dedicated to introductions and preparations. This is a challenging yet beginner-friendly adventure. Far heavier emphasis will be placed on creative problem-solving than on mastery of combat systems or mechanics. If you’re new to roleplaying games, you should read the “Basic Rules for Fifth Edition” in advance, but feel free to ask questions about game concepts at any time during play.

What I provide

Music, visual aids, and dice rolls will be handled via bots in the Discord server.

Gameplay details

In THE FROST SPIRE, look forward to: 🎄 A winter solstice festival gone terribly wrong. 💀 High-tension mystery, tragedy, and intrigue. 🎃 Otherworldly creatures from folklore and fairy tale meant to frighten disobedient children. 🎭 Opportunities for involved roleplaying, clever problem-solving, and—when all else fails—high-stakes combat. This table is a welcoming space for everyone! We’re all here to have fun. Please know going in, however, that the fiction of the game may include heavy and fraught subjects such as religious persecution, lynch mobs, and child endangerment. While these and other sensitive subjects may be dealt with in-character, all players should treat one another with kindness, thoughtfulness, and respect. If anyone is uncomfortable with a game situation, we will pause play at any time to talk through the issue.

How will character creation work

Feel free to bring any level 3 Fifth Edition character created using standard Adventurers League rules! Pregenerated characters will also be provided. We will be playing in a fantasy world with cultural and political similarities to the 16th century Holy Roman Empire. Please note that, in this setting, the urban world is almost entirely populated by Humans. Townsfolk are likely to treat any “outsider” (non-Human) characters except Dwarves and Halflings with extreme suspicion and hostility. You are welcome to play an Elf, Tiefling, or Dragonborn, but keep in mind this may be “hard mode” for you as a player! The same applies to the Blood Hunter class, which will be specially permitted for this adventure in addition to Adventurers League official classes.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low

  • Roleplay: High

  • Puzzles: Medium

  • Experience Level: Open to all
