Here comes the biggest headlines in TTRPGs! This week: WotC brings on a new DnD dev while letting go of a community staple, Renegade loses the World of Darkness but keeps Transformers, a modern Ravenloft setting is teased, and DnD creators rolled a giant d20 down a hill.

Wizards Of The Coast Makes Major DnD Hirings And Firings

Dungeons & Dragons has a new Senior Game Developer: Celeste Conowitch. As reported by EN World, Conowitch has a prolific history with Kobold Press 5e products. She has work in the Campaign Builder series, Deep Magic, and was the Lead Designer on Tales of the Valiant. For DnD itself, she is a Co-Author on several Adventurers League modules and Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.

On the flip side, WotC has laid off Community Manager LaTia Jacquise. Community reaction expressed disappointment in the news, along with much appreciation for Jacquise’s efforts for engagement and transparency. Jacquise was often the one fans turned to for explanations of WotC’s questionable decisions, and is often cited by journalists/creators as a pleasure to work with.

Renegade Renews Hasbro License, Loses White Wolf Partnership

In another round of ups and downs, Renegade Game Studios announced some updates to its games partnerships. The company renewed its licensing agreement with Hasbro, which includes TTRPGs and board games. This isn’t too surprising as Renegade already announced updated TTRPGs based on G.I. Joe, Power Rangers, and Transformers using the 5.5e ruleset.

However, Renegade is not renewing its TTRPG partnership with White Wolf for World of Darkness games. This is because White Wolf is bringing development and publishing efforts back in-house, reports ICv2. While Renegade will still work with White Wolf through 2026, the new status quo kicks off in 2027 with a new edition of Vampire: The Masquerade.

DnD Teases Modern Day Version Of Ravenloft Setting

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within came out months ago, but it seems DnD isn’t done with the classic setting yet. D&D Beyond shared a tease for a modern take on Lamordia, the Frankenstein-inspired Domain of Dread. Called Project_Lamordia, this update turns the body horror idea into a techno-thriller where a private tech company transforms people with the goal of cheating death. More details are to be revealed on October 13.

Patreon Brings TTRPG Creators Together To Roll A Giant D20 Down A Hill

A group of well-known TTRPG creators including Ginni Di, Erika Ishii, and Legends of Avantris came together to roll a humongous 20-sided die down a hill. The stunt was put together by Patreon to celebrate the growth of TTRPG business on its platform. Each creator developed their own community challenge based on what number came up on the die, from a cosplay takeover to a literal rollercoaster ride. The mini-documentary shows how the crew behind the scenes managed to transport the giant d20 and put together a shot out in the hills of Calabasas, California.

Wonder where the giant d20 is being stored now? Well, until next time, thanks for reading and may your dice be kind!

Sergio Solórzano is the best Dungeon Master in the USA (according to an official D&D competition, anyway). He loves minis and terrain but also goes all-in on improv!
