Dungeons & Dragons dominated the headlines this week, both for good and bad reasons. In this week’s tabletop RPG news: Ravenloft, The Horrors Within previews show off stat blocks, Vampire: The Masquerade gets big updates at Gen Con, and WotC employees claim the company is sending them anti-union letters.

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within Previews Show DnD Cthulhu Stat Block

Dungeons & Dragons put out a State of the Game video today to give developer insights on the upcoming Ravenloft book. Among the pages previewed were stat blocks for the Darklords themselves, something many criticized was missing from Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft

Strahd himself got the 5.5e treatment complete with an auto-grapple attack and the flexibility to mix in spellcasting with his multiattack. Little is a surprise, remaining faithful to how he’s statted in Curse of Strahd. A bit more novelty went into Cthulhu, who uses a lot of action economy to fold space, both teleporting and knocking enemies around. Ravenloft: The Horrors Within releases on June 16.

Around this time last year, White Wolf was revived as the steward of the World of Darkness TTRPG arm. Now they are ready to reveal what’s next for Vampire: The Masquerade. The studio announced that it has plans to bring VTM to Gen Con 2026 in a big way. They teased a new project that emphasizes player agency as well as some advancement of the VTM metaplot

The post also reveals that there will be a presentation on the future of World of Darkness, an actual play featuring new playtest material, and playtesting opportunities. Tickets for all of these Gen Con events are on sale now.

Wizards Of The Coast Sends Letters Urging Employees Not To Unionize

via @xib.bsky.social

A group of WotC employees working on Magic: The Gathering Arena unionized earlier this month and now find the company urging them not to. The company was given the invitation to recognize the union and ignored it. WotC gave statements to the press, but union organizers claimed that they were never given an official response. Now, employees are telling PC Gamer that WotC is sending daily emails describing how unions don’t guarantee fair deals and make negotiations take longer. Employees shared these emails on social media, and are staying resolute on voting “Yes” for a union.

Good luck to the employees on their vote, hopefully this action leads to an improvement in working conditions. Until next time, may your dice be kind.

Sergio Solórzano is the best Dungeon Master in the USA (according to a Wizards of the Coast competition, anyway). He loves minis and terrain but also goes all-in on improv!
