Pirate Borg | Brethren of the Coast
Pirate Borg | Campaign
About the adventure
PIRATE BORG is a scurvy-ridden, rules-light, art-heavy tabletop RPG. Inspired by history, fantasy, horror and rum. Your cutlass & flintlock won’t save you from the hordes of skeletons, the Kraken, or even your own crew. There is a darkness upon the sea. These tranquil islands betray the horrors that have unfolded in the Dark Caribbean, and a constant state of war has spawned a new breed of outlaw: 🏴☠️ the Pirates. 🏴☠️ ...but fouler things than men plague these waters. 🧟 Hordes of undead. 💀 Ships of bone and flesh. 🦑 Nameless terrors lurking in the deep. 😈 But not the Devil himself can save a man from his own greed. What to Expect: In this campaign, the Dark Caribbean serves as the backdrop for gritty, high-stakes pirate adventures. Beyond the supernatural horrors and undead galleons that lurk in the mist, the true struggles of life on the high seas will demand your attention. Pirates in the Caribbean during this period faced constant battles with the elements, navigating treacherous waters, managing dwindling supplies, and dealing with the harsh realities of violence, mutiny, and betrayal. You’ll need to master the art of survival—whether by raiding merchant vessels, forging uneasy alliances with rival pirates, or avoiding the ever-watchful eye of the empire. But it’s not just about gold; hunger, disease, and the ever-present threat of death loom large, and a single bad decision could send you to Davy Jones’ locker. This campaign will test your wits, your ability to navigate the turbulent political waters of the Caribbean, and your loyalty to your crew in the face of relentless peril.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
This campaign will consist of a session 0, explained below, and approximately 12 sessions that will advance the plot of our band of the Brethren of the Coast as they deal with the increasingly bleak conditions of the Dark Caribbean as we approach ARMAGEDDON. During our session 0, we will spend half of the time going over the rules and our expectations for the campaign. During the second half of session 0 we will get into the game and begin to play, utilizing some simple encounters to allow everyone time to adapt to and understand the rules.
