Imaginative

Imaginative is a descriptor for a subgenre of a larger set of media which is especially creative or unique. Imaginative media and fiction twists, innovates, or re-imagines the assumptions of its genre at large in a way that feels fresh and interesting. As the name implies, such works actively imagine new directions for their genre and compelling implications of commonly understood tropes. They might tease out the laws of magic to their logical conclusion in a fantasy world, or dream up creative uses for high-tech in science fiction, or consider the everyday applications of otherwise fantastical, reality-warping powers like granting wishes. TTRPGs are games of imagination, so it's no surprise that many games have imaginative conceits. Imaginative roleplaying games usually have a unique concept and put creative use of powers and abilities in the hands of their players. They challenge players and game masters to get creative with strange and unique tools to tell stories which would be otherwise impossible. If a game is "imaginative," you can count on it to provide a rich central conceit that establishes a playground and seeks creative input from its players as they explore, test its boundaries, and expand its possibilities.
