Echoes of the Unfinished

Echoes of the Unfinished

Wraith: The Oblivion 20th Anniversary Edition, World of Darkness | Campaign

About the adventure

What if death was only the beginning? You died. Maybe it was sudden—a car crash on the Bay Bridge, a bullet in a dark alley, a slip from the Golden Gate. Or maybe it was slow, a sickness eating away at you, an inevitable fate you fought to the bitter end. But the truth is the same: you didn’t move on. Now, you exist in the Shadowlands, an eerie reflection of San Francisco where time stands still, and the city’s restless dead walk unseen among the living. You are a wraith, trapped between this world and the next, bound by emotions too strong to let you go. But you are not alone. The Shadow, the darkest part of your soul, whispers in your mind, tempting you toward destruction. The Hierarchy, the oppressive rulers of the dead, demand your servitude or your silence. The Renegades offer rebellion, but their cause may be as doomed as they are. And beneath it all, Oblivion waits—an endless hunger that claims those who lose their way. You have unfinished business. A mystery to solve. A promise to keep. A revenge to exact. The living world still calls to you—but can you hold onto yourself before the darkness claims you? Why Play Echoes of the Unfinished? A Unique Take on Horror This isn’t a game about slashing through monsters or running from mindless evil. This is a story of personal horror, of loss, longing, and the weight of unfinished business. The true enemy is not just the terrifying Spectres that lurk in the shadows, but the battles within your own soul. A Psychological Journey Your Shadow knows your fears, your regrets, your weaknesses. It will offer you what you want most—power, comfort, closure—at a terrible cost. Will you resist its influence, or will you let it shape who you become? A Hauntingly Beautiful Setting San Francisco is a city of ghosts—of lost dreams, forgotten histories, and lingering regrets. In the Shadowlands, the Golden Gate Bridge stretches into the void, a beacon to lost souls. Alcatraz is more than a ruin; it is a prison for the damned. The old tunnels beneath the city are home to those who refuse to bow to the Hierarchy, while the ruins of Sutro Baths mark the entrance to the storm-tossed Tempest. Every corner of this city tells a story—some beautiful, some tragic, all unforgettable. Unfinished Business Every wraith is bound by Passions—the intense emotions that keep them from fading away. Love. Vengeance. Guilt. Hope. Your story is shaped by what you left undone and how far you’re willing to go to set things right. Will you find peace? Or will you become just another ghost lost to the city? The Living & The Dead Your loved ones still walk the city, oblivious to your presence. But what if you could reach them? What if you could warn them, comfort them, influence their fates? Would you risk breaking the laws of the dead for one final moment with the living?

How will character creation work

Character Creation: Crafting Both Light and Shadow In Echoes of the Unfinished, your character is more than just a soul lost in the afterlife—you are a being shaped by tragedy, regret, and longing. Your story begins before the character sheet, with a focus on who they were in life, how they died, and what unfinished business keeps them from moving on. Together, we will explore: • Your Life Before Death – What defined you? What relationships, ambitions, or failures shaped your existence? • The Moment of Death – Was it sudden or drawn out? Was it violent, tragic, or unresolved? • Your Unfinished Business – What keeps you bound to the Shadowlands? What passions drive you, and what fetters anchor you? Only after we shape your story will we translate it into game mechanics, ensuring that every trait on your sheet has personal meaning. The Shadow: Playing Another’s Darkness A defining aspect of Wraith: The Oblivion is the Shadow, the dark half of every wraith’s soul, whispering doubt, fear, and temptation. In this game, each player will take on the role of another player’s Shadow, acting as their inner voice, urging them toward self-destruction, indulgence, or despair. However, playing the Shadow is not about simple disruption—it is about embodying an archetype of inner struggle. Shadows are cunning, seductive, and patient, offering power or comfort at a cost. They test the resolve of the wraith they haunt, shaping their journey toward salvation or oblivion. As a Shadow, your role is critical: • Push your wraith’s weaknesses, but never derail the game. • Be a tempter, not just an antagonist. Shadows are persuasive, offering choices rather than forcing failure. • Enhance the story, not disrupt it. Your goal is to make the struggle compelling, not to frustrate the player. The Shadow is what makes Wraith unique—a constant, intimate battle between hope and self-destruction. Embrace it wisely, and the story will be unforgettable.
