About Faisselle

My online name is Faisselle. It is a type of cheese. 👶👶Father of two. 📖 History teacher. ✊Leftist. 🥸 Pro GM. 🔵⚪🔴French and speaking english, so I guess bilingual. 🕛Timezone : GMT +2. I'm a French GM with about 16 years in the hobby, mostly as a GM. I have a background as a history teacher. I love tense, high stakes one-shots and campaigns, where the player's decisions drive the story : all your choices will matter. I am mostly here to humbly offer my experience to anyone willing to try. My main rules are : emotional security and parity ; no oppressive behaviour of any kind ; lots of social themes in my games. And voices. I have played numerous games as a GM, starting with Call of Cthulhu and Little Fears before taking interest in Star Wars Edge of the Empire, Legend of the Five Rings, NightProwler, 3:16, Vampire Dark Age, Spire the City must fall, Quest... I also DM D&D, tweaking it with all these other games experience. I also like to write my own roleplaying games when I have the time. You can find most of them right here : https://faisselle.itch.io/ - Bonjour.

When I'm not running games I'm...

taking care of my children, reading history or social science, trying to draw (most of my drawings are pretty bad), walking my dog outside, trying to prevent my cats from breaking things (it works most of the time) cooking, teaching (it's my job) and writing ttrpg (some of them are not that bad).

People are always surprised when I tell them

that most of the time I have no idea of what I am doing.

I became a GM because

I guess we needed a GM and I saw the opportunity to go full research on historical games (I started with that)... and then it stuck on me. I guess I kinda like it that way.

How Faisselle runs games

I am a "roleplay heavy" GM : I like roleplay, NPCs, social encounters, giving the world a sense of "population" (each and every NPC has a name and face in my games, nobody is a nobody). Nothing is static, everything can change thanks or because of the players actions (or inactions). I am much more familiar with investigation, horror and "social" games. Most of my scenarios have social themes like social struggles, underdogs stories, social justice : my characters are often fighting against injustice or live in worlds full of causes to struggle for. In my heart, my favorite RPG is Spire, where revolution is the core of the game and change is rewarded. I believe in quick, intense, but not necessary fights : all my scenarios give the players the option to skip the violence entirely, and a lot of them shun the fighting. I have a history background, so I love to make research for the "real" world I put my scenarios in ; and I like to give a "reality" feeling in my fictional universes with details and oddities from the real world or from my brain. And sometimes, I love a good old pulp adventure with lots of action, adventure, mystery and dashing acts.

My games focus on...

giving players agency, inclusivity, a safe space to express and play. My main concern is that everyone feel safe and included ; my second main concern is that the players are driving the scenario, not me. I'm a provider of clues and beams : to te players to go after them.

When it comes to voices

I have three main things : the old person with a sarcastic wit and knowing more than it seems, the insufferable young lad who thinks he knows better than everybody (he doesn't), and the weird little creature with a raspy voice. But I also do all kind of other stuff.

I prep by

reading lots of stuff, preparing lots of stuff, and mostly shaking it together until something comes out of it. I always have a notebook on me for noting anything that comes through my mind : eventually it could be useful !

Faisselle's ideal table

My table is a safe, inclusive and diverse space : I firmly suggest any bigoted, mean spirited of hateful people to go away. There is always parity, and I accept all experience of play : be it your 1000th or first game, you will be treated the same. I like players that can take on them to make their backstories live at the table, not expecting the GM to give them breadcrumbs for it. I like agentivity and agency in my players, but I strongly dislike Main Character Syndrome : if you cannot play with your fellow players and put your fun in service of the collective fun, you can go away. My scenarios mostly works as "hubs" with the characters having a goal, a place to accomplish it, NPCs to interact with, and no clear path to the ending - as a matter of fact I don't write endings because I think it should belong to the players actions. I'm not a fan of railroading, but I can always give you any clues so you make your decisions informed. My tables are chill places, with people able to discuss with each other and listen to one another : I like to follow the rules, but don't hesitate to correct me if I'm mistaking. We are here to have adventures with stakes, but also to have fun : if the players want a less or more intense vibe, so be it.

My table is not the place for...

being bothersome, being a Main Character, or for absolutely wanting to do something else than what we agreed upon : if you are at a pirate-themed game and the only things you want to do are never pirate related, maybe you should find another table.

I love it when a player

make something that is totally out of the box, because I have no choice but to follow its decision and see how it would totally change the world I built. I'm not here to say "This cannot be changed" : everything changes.

I think it's a red flag when players...

never listen to the other players, try to take the lead in every scene even when they clearly are not fit for it, or use any method to attract my attention / try to derail the story in their own personnal way / to disparate their fellow players in any way. You are here to play together, safely.
