About the adventure
Interested in Dungeons & Dragons but don’t know where to start? This is the game for you. We’ll start our session building characters together using the popular web site D&D Beyond. We’ll get a feeling for rolling digital dice and we’ll walk through all the numbers, from AC to XP. Then we’ll take our new characters for a spin along the Talbet Road, where the normally peaceful road connecting two villages is marred by a smoking, upturned wagon. What happened here? And where is the wagon driver? We’ll uncover the mystery at a beginner’s pace—don’t be afraid to ask questions! By adventure’s end, you’ll have the D&D skills to take on a full campaign—maybe even the queen of dragons, Tiamat, herself!

How to prepare
If you can run a Zoom call from your device, you’re all set. Have a working internet connection, headphones, and some kind of microphone—even if it’s part of your computer. We’ll go over the rest. We’ll be using two web sites—dndbeyond.com and owlbear.rodeo. It’s helpful if you can put the two windows next to one another. If you have a picture you would like to use for your character, email it to me beforehand and I'll make a token for you.
What I provide
I’ll set up the Zoom call and prep all the materials we'll need for the game.
Gameplay details
We’ll go slow to make room for lots of questions. This is a beginner’s game, through-and-through, so ask and ask again. Players can expect mild fantasy violence akin to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We’ll cover player boundaries, called Lines and Veils, as we begin, as well as the “pause game” mechanic, the X-Card for use during play.
