Happy almost Valentine’s Day! And what better way to celebrate than by writing about what I love: tabletop RPGs and small plastic monsters!

This week: Chris Perkins explains his original plan for Vecna: Eve of Ruin, Indie creators assemble thousands of games to support immigrants in Minnesota, and Paizo announces a wargaming partnership.

Chris Perkins Reveals That Vecna: Eve Of Ruin Was Supposed To Be About Time Travel

Now that he’s out of Wizards of the Coast and at Darrington Press, former DnD Creative Director Chris Perkins shared some behind-the-scenes info on his time with 5E. In an interview with Polygon, Perkins revealed that his original plan for Vecna: Eve of Ruin was to pay off the whole obelisk subplot from other books.

Those who ran a lot of 5E modules might have noticed the continued presence of black obelisks. There was one in Frostmaiden, one in Tomb of Annihilation, and of course the Shattered Obelisk below Phandelver. Their presence was supposed to be part of Vecna’s master plan in Eve of Ruin, leading to players using their time-warping magics to go back and fight Vecna in Netheril. But when Perkins’ role at WotC shifted away from hands-on development, he was no longer involved enough to see that storyline through.

Buy A LOT Of Indie TTRPGs And Support Getting ICE Out Of Minnesota

There’s a new mega bundle on Itch.io: get over 1,400 games for $10. The proceeds go towards the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota so they can better help people get legal representation as they are being unfairly targeted by ICE. The bundle includes several PC games like Baba is You, as well as many TTRPGs. The genres and gameplay styles are too many to list – there’s narrative history, solo games, monster hunting, and even Glitter Hearts. The bundle will continue into March, but the more people that buy it now, the more the ILCM can help now. StartPlaying GMs are also running charity games to help the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund.

Paizo To Offer Printable Minis For Wargaming

Paizo is partnering with One Page Rules to release official STL files for printing Pathfinder monsters. The miniatures will be compatible with the Age of Fantasy wargaming ruleset and will even come with stats based on their abilities in Pathfinder 2E. As reported by Wargamer, the STLs will come in batches once a month. The sets will even change theme every quarter just as the RPG changes theme every few releases, with the initial STL set being based on Hellfire Crisis. The printable files will be sold via Paizo’s Patreon and MyMiniFactory. The first set is due out in Spring 2026.

I’m always down for more minis! Although I just started getting into HeroScape, so maybe I don’t need another wargame eating at my wallet… Anyways! Thanks for reading, and may your dice be kind.

Sergio Solórzano is the best Dungeon Master in the USA (according to a Wizards of the Coast competition, anyway). He loves minis and terrain but also goes all-in on improv!
