November starts off strong with a lot of not-DnD news! In StartPlaying’s tabletop RPG news roundup, we show you the biggest headlines of the week so you can get back to stacking dice.
This week: IDW announces a Godzilla TTRPG, Daggerheart reveals its Blood Hunter, Apocalypse World 3E comes to Kickstarter, and the Daggerheart/HeroForge collab rubs fans the wrong way.
Godzilla TTRPG To Hit Kickstarter In 2026
A new tabletop RPG based on Godzilla is on the way, but it’s not quite what you think. First, Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game will be set within the world of the IDW Comics series. Second, it will use a deck of cards to decide outcomes instead of dice. According to EN World, previews for this Godzilla TTRPG will be available at PAX Unplugged 2025. The game will then come to Kickstarter for crowdfunding in March 2026 with a full release intended for later 2026. The design team includes Jervis Johnson. Mark A. Latham, and Gav Thorpe.
Daggerheart Gets Its Blood Hunter In Time For Halloween
Darrington Press surprise dropped a new Daggerheart playtest class, although its timing wasn’t a surprise for fans. Many hoped that the edgy Blood Hunter, being a creation of Daggerheart designer Matthew Mercer, would be a shoe-in for the game. They were right, and they were also right to guess that October 31st would be the day it debuted. The class is available via the Void system on Demiplane and comes with a new Blood Domain and three subclasses. The name of Blood Hunter’s abilities and subclasses come mostly from its roots as a DnD class, as does the risk-reward style of gameplay involving intentionally inflicting damage on oneself.
HeroForge & Daggerheart Collab Gains User Ire Over Pricing Model
HeroForge announced a collaboration with Darrington Press to offer unique parts based on Daggerheart ancestries. The Simiah, Fungril, and Ribbet are to be added to HeroForge as paid Collaborator Collections. The original plan was to make access to the parts a separate purchase, even for HeroForge Pro subscribers.
This decision sparked user criticism, with many seeing it as an extra cash grab on top of what they already pay. HeroForge has since responded, noting the financial difficulties of splitting profits with an IP holder but also a desire to see user concerns addressed. As a result, Pro users will now get the Daggerheart collab items for free as part of their subscription. Non-Pro users will still need to pay to access the items.
Apocalypse World 3rd Edition Now On Kickstarter
The original Powered by the Apocalypse game system, Apocalypse World, is officially getting a new edition. Apocalypse World Burned Over is now launched and funded on Kickstarter. The update revises old playbooks and adds new ones. Add-ons add even more playbooks, as well as a set of playbooks made for a sword-and-sorcery post-apocalypse setting. The Apocalypse World 3E Kickstarter campaign goes until December 19.
That’s all we got for this week! Thanks for reading, and may your dice be kind!
Sergio Solórzano is the best Dungeon Master in the USA (according to a Wizards of the Coast competition, anyway). He loves minis and terrain but also goes all-in on improv!
