Another week reaches its end with plenty to talk about in the tabletop RPG industry. And StartPlaying is here to break down the biggest stories into bite-sized pieces for you. So grab your favorite beverage, put on some lo-fi, and join us for another quick session of TTRPG news.

This week, Dungeons & Dragons fixed some issues with its new Player’s Handbook, Greg Tito left Wizards of the Coast, Hex & Co workers staged a walk out, and Dimension 20 revealed a return to a beloved season.

Greg Tito Leaves WotC For Government Gig

Now-former WotC communications director Greg Tito is gone from the company and onto a new gig with the state of Washington. Tito announced the job change on BlueSky, reports EN World, and is now the Deputy Director of External Affairs for Washington’s secretary of state. Tito was with WotC for almost a decade and spearheaded many notable projects including D&D Live events and the Dragon Talk podcast.

In a turn of events that definitely caught social media attention, Tito replied to a comment by saying "It feels good to do something that doesn't just line the pockets of a**holes." He later added that by “a**holes” he meant “shareholders.”

DnD Already Adds Corrections To 2024 Player's Handbook

The 2024 PHB hit D&D Beyond for early access purchasers and local game store shelves this week. Those with both versions noticed that the digital version is already getting errata that changes the language of certain entries from the book. For instance, the Giant Insect spell was a concern of some who got an early copy of the book because it seemed very powerful. The D&D Beyond Giant Insect spell clarifies the summoned insect’s HP. Other errata involves the Goliath species, donning a shield, and the Telekinetic feat. EN World has a thread on the changes.

Dimension 20 Misfits & Magic Season 2 Releases This Month

Dropout announced that season two of Misfits & Magic releases on September 25 with 11 episodes. The trailer shows GM Aabria Iyengar set the scene three years after the first season. She also raises the stakes by saying that “death is on the table.” The original cast is shown to be returning and the trailer ends with a suitably spooky vibe for the season.

Hex & Co Workers Walk Out Over Alleged Union-Busting At Board Game Cafe

Workers from three locations of the Hex & Co board game cafe staged a walk out on August 31 to protest supposed anti-union activities from the owners. The saga has been going on for almost a year now, starting with the formation of Tabletop Workers United to achieve better conditions for staff of Hex & Co, The Uncommons, and the Brooklyn Strategist. Ever since, reports Rascal News, the owners’ legal representation has been hostile to the union effort.

Legal filings show that workers have submitted nine Unfair Labor Practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board over the course of early 2024. These mostly relate to threats and retaliation in response to union activities. According to Tabletop Workers United, the most recent walk out could turn into a month of events unless management makes significant changes.

That’s all for this week’s edition of TTRPG news. Thanks for reading, and may your dice be kind!
