About the adventure

THIS IS A ASYNCHRONOUS PLAY BY POST ADVENTURE Welcome to Rota! Warring gods have shattered the world into floating disks, each ruled by its own deity. Their eternal conflict drags mortals into unending war. You are one such mortal—survive the no-man’s lands, uncover secrets, and rise to become the hero Rota needs, whether through violence, diplomacy, or both. This game is a gritty, roleplay-focused adventure inspired by WWI trench warfare, eldritch horror, and high fantasy. You’ll navigate the battlefields of divine conflict, broker uneasy alliances, and face the terrifying unknowns of a broken world. Setting: Rota is my original setting, where familiar fantasy races are scattered across a world fractured by divine war. Each disk is a god’s domain, and every faction fights for survival and supremacy. It’s a world of survival, mystery, and the consequences of power. This is a passion project—I’d love for you to come tell your story in this war-torn world.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Play By Post

Play By Post refers to a game in which players interact with the story through messages and text posts. These games are typically played asynchronously throughout the week, which gives players time to consider what they want to do next, and engage with the story at their own pace.

Recruiting notes

This PBP is aimed at new players and beginners. If you are not you are still welcome to play, but know that there will a possible slower pace as the game is learned. If that’s okay with you come on in and survive to fight another day.

I found Daniel on Discord where I was looking for someone to run a homebrew sandbox in a similar style as Critical Role that is mostly focused on character based rp. I love heavy character backstories and exploring them together as a party, and that can be difficult to find players who are as deep into lore as I am. Daniel offered to run one for me and we found other players. We are 11 sessions in, and it is the game I look forward to the most in my week. He is flexible and devoted to giving the experience you're looking for.

Daniel is a joy. He is incredibly kind, enthusiastic, and a creative powerhouse. He allows for player creativity while also sticking to the rules when need be. His world building has depth, his NPCs are all fun, and his encounters are punishing, yet invigorating all at the same time. Honestly, cannot recommend Daniel enough. I will stay in his games as long as he will let me.

Amazing DM. Very understanding and helpful with game mechanics. Definitely beginner friendly and an amazing time at his table, would give 6/5 stars if I could 😌

I've never played an actual full session of DnD before playing with Daniel, and he made it so easy to immerse yourself in his world. As well, he's extremely understanding and open to character development. But most importantly, his passion and creativity for tabletop roleplay is infectious. Despite my handicap of only understanding DnD via podcasts, Daniel's world building was easy to follow, while also having just enough complexity to keep you from knowing what happens next.

I played in a one shot and had a great time! I am not a big fan of one shots personally however, due to time constraints that's what I could do right now. The GM allowed me to play my character concept the exact way I wanted and gave everyone a chance to shine. If I can enjoy the one shot I am confident you'll enjoy playing with Daniel.

How to prepare

Please sign into the Discord link provided in the preparation notes. Once there, kindly familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of the server located in the designated channel. Additionally, create a level 1 character in DND Beyond and link it to Avrea in the discord chat. Once done please create a tupper for use in our RP channel. If you encounter any issues, feel free to DM me for assistance. I aim to respond 2 times daily, possibly more on weekdays. On weekends I won’t be responding as normal.

What I provide

I'll bring a sweeping story filled with vivid descriptions and memorable NPCs, along with visuals & images to enhance gameplay. The game is play-by-post, and I can usually respond between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. EST on weekdays, with occasional responses at other times. In this format, I aim to prioritize the narrative over strict adherence to the rules, allowing the story to flow more naturally. I'll also provide notes on the NPCs we encounter to help keep track of everyone we meet along the way.

Gameplay details

Before we begin play, we'll discuss content warnings to ensure everyone's comfort. My hard boundaries include: ❌ No violence against children ❌ No non-consensual sexual content ❌ No descriptions of torture These boundaries are also detailed in the "Rules" section of our Discord server for easy reference.
