About the adventure

Inspired by the world of Princess Mononoke - Down the Leylines in this world of train tracks and Fey rings, there is a river, and beside the river, there is a small town. We make due in this small town with nothing special but our mysterious, ancient glass that never breaks and holds all light, and we lift each other up, and we help each other make it in a world both dark and sweet. So, when strangers arrive, the people regard them with caution. You - you, Strangers. What crime or wrongdoing did you commit that led you to run from your hometown, and find yourself settling in a new life, here? What good do you provide for this place that convinced them to let you stay? And what will you do when the river waters begin to rise?

About me

My name is Moon, I am the Dm for Spare the Crying podcast, and a variety of games on the side! I would love to host a game with you if you like folktale inspired fantasy, Americana, and stories with both fun combat and emotional depth. Feel free to request whatever game you wish, let’s chat. I love helping my players tell engaging tales with a good mix of fun and angst! I love to engage into character arcs, and create roleplay-heavy games mixed with fun combat. My favorite inspirations are Americana myths, folk and fairy tales, and Ghibli worlds. I have played: DnD 5e, Monster of the Week, The Quiet Year, Fiasco, and Wanderhome.

They go out of their way to make a safe and fun environment for all players and work in game mechanics that give players agency over their world and the kind of story that they want to tell. Playing with them is a delightful experience.

Moon is such a wonderful GM -- so welcoming of chaos, but willing to reign it in when it gets too out of hand. Always down for out of the box decision-making and incredibly respectfully of player agency. Moon is an incredibly creative storyteller and I always look forward to our next story beat. Thank you Moon!

As a first-time player, Moon has been such a generous, thoughtful, and supportive DM. Not only are our sessions captivating and FUN because of the story they've laid out before us, but they also allow us so much room to learn, grow, and experiment as players. I have learned so much not only about the game itself but also about how to find my groove within it, thanks to their patience and creativity. I cannot recommend Moon's games enough! You'll have a blast.

Moon is an incredible dm, there's no other way to describe it. They have been extremely welcoming and patient for those of us more green with TTRPGs, providing ample space for us to learn and be creative while making sure the game remains enjoyable for all. Truly collaborative and open communication the whole way through. Their worlds are beautifully crafted and they make sincere efforts to weave player characters and ideas in at every opportunity. And their story telling ability/skill is simply inspiring and so much fun to be involved in. Whether it's your first campaign or your millionth, I can only give them my highest recommendation.

There is so much good about playing with Moon. One of the coolest things is that we all play in a shared world and we all play in the same discord server. We have private channels, but also public ones so we can see what kinds of characters and islands other groups have. It feels like summer camp, and Moon attracts the coolest people so everyone here is lovely and welcoming. On TOP of that, Moon really cares about making your character feel seen. They have managed to weave our disparate backstories into such a beautiful conflict(/pos) that everybody has stakes in. There is also private and public check in methods post each session so that if for whatever reason you are not having a good time, you have a way to let them know. I could go on and on about how lovely this experience has been. Join a game! Pinky promise its worth it🖤

Character creation
Creating your character

Please come with fully created characters at Level 5! Include: - A reason why they had to leave their hometown (A crime or wrongdoing). This does not mean your character needs to be evil or chaotic! - A reason why they are accepted into their new community, be it a service they provide, a craft they excel at, or a role they fulfill.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Webcams are preferred, but optional if you prefer just audio!

What Moon Lo brings to the table

I use simple maps to help with spatial awareness, but run my games mostly with descriptive language and theater of the mind - I encourage players to join in and do the same, and help shape the world around them to utilize their imagination and show off what they can do with The Rule of Cool! I like to play music from a soundtrack playlist, but it is not required if people prefer silence in the background.

How Moon Lo creates a safe table

I will be sending a Lines and Veils checklist for all members of the table to fill out beforehand, I will compile them into a single list to be sent back in read aloud before the session. I also use the 'X Card' system via the soundboard in Discord, in case people have cameras off or are not watching the screen.
