Pride & Perception Checks

Good Society, Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

"My Dearest Love, It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an adventurer in possession of good fortune and a dragon's hoard, must be in want of marriage. Our esteemed, mysterious, (and extremely hot) Lord is throwing what will surely be declared as the ball of the season. Every person of good society simply must be in attendance and if you are not I shall be heartily vexed. You have been much in my thoughts, and if you were to join the festivities it would have me in paroxysms of joy. I would only beg that you save your first dance for me. Yours, etc. Sir F. Uture-Loveinterest" 🥀 If you love a role play focused game, this is for you! 🎩 Filled with all the laughs and drama of an Austen novel, but with the shenanigans and intrigue of a D&D campaign. We will be combining D&D we all know and love with 'Good Society' (an incredible period drama RPG) in the style of Dimension 20's "A Court of Fey & Flowers"! 🧚 (eg. Instead of Strength, Dexterity, etc. for our stats we'll be reflavouring to Poise, Subtlety, Reputation, Wit, Sensibility, & Charm) 💐 This'll be the third campaign of this type I've run, and the first two have been among my favourite campaigns I've ever played in ✨

Game style

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Davey is such a wonderful GM! He’s always got a funny voice or quip to liven up any scenario, and compelling when roleplaying serious, intimate moments or exciting drama. He has a wonderful ability to hold everyone in game and give them moments in the spotlight, even in a 5 player game. He’s by far the best GM I’ve ever had the privilege of playing with. Thank you, Davey!

I've had the pleasure of playing a hybrid game of D&D and Good Society facilitated by Davey. I've found him a warm and playful improviser and storyteller, seemingly ready with a hundred characters. He excels at creating a safe space for great role play, and is always making his players look good. His organising of character sheets and understanding of mechanics has been great for me as someone who wants to participate in TTRPGs but rarely has a lot of spare time! Really appreciate his hard work, and yet seeming ease with the games we've played. What a pleasure!

Davey is one of the best DMs hands down. His storytelling ability, improv skills and passion is felt through every moment of the session. I'm a newish player when it comes to DND, so having someone as kind and patient as him has been a real God send. He heard what I was/wasn't comfortable with and he made sure that I knew that it was a safe space so I could voice whenever I was concerned, upset or confused. He is a creative genius when it comes to lore building, and even helped develop my character so that she was a fully fleshed out character with ambitions and wants in a campaign that's over 50+ by the time I joined. I've never felt so listened to, comfortable and happy playing in a DND campaign. I truly felt accepted and part of the team. Davey brings his characters to life and encourages others to use their creativity, or helps when they're struggling to play out a scene. He makes sure that everyone has their main character moment and feels valued in the world and in the party. I'm so grateful that I found such a wonderful DM and group of fellow nerds to play with <3

I have played both D&D 5e and Good Society (a Jane Austin RPG) with Davey. With both one shots and short campaigns, I find myself smiling and laughing more than I have in years. The drudgery and difficulties of life melt away as Davey creates a world of mystery and delight. You’ll get transported to a world come to life with accents, silly shenanigans and sometimes heart wrenching drama. Some of the best games I’ve played and the most memorable characters have been with Davey. You be doing yourself a disservice to not try a game. You absolutely will not be disappointed.

The best experience I’ve ever had playing a TTRPG. I wish I could give a higher rating than 5.

While I was only able to play in a few sessions I would recommend Davey to anyone looking for an awesome GM. He did an excellent job incorporating both 5e and Good Society play mechanics while keeping an open mind in the character and world building process.

How will character creation work

Nothing needed! The big difference between Good Society and D&D as a game is that in the former it's better to think of EVERYONE as the game master. It is far more collaborative! We'll be mixing and matching it with D&D, but whether that's just aesthetic or more intensive I think we chat about in our session 0!
