About the adventure

Immerse yourself into the gloomy land of Barovia, where you will find yourself part of the story, because Strahd von Zarovich wants it that way. You and your fellow adventurers will come together and fight the vampire lord with things he doesn't understand: found family, friendship, and love. You don't need to know anything about Foundry or even D&D to play this game. You get a free out-of-game session 0 to create your character, go over the rules, learn how to use the virtual tabletop, and answer any questions you might have. And remember: all questions are valid when you don't know the answer. We use FoundryVTT for maps and Discord for voice. Message me to get started! In this campaign, you will: **Learn to rely on your teammates. This is vital in a place where a single mistake can have grave consequences, and where your only solace may be a kind word or a genuine laugh from your companions. Life here is grim, but that doesn’t mean you have to be. **Visit an amazing gothic castle! There are secret doors, secret passages, hidden traps, and amazing treasures. (And vampires, but with enough cleverness, you may be able to avoid those. Maybe. Probably not.) **Immerse yourself in the rich history and lore of the strange, bleak land of Barovia. Learn how the curse upon this land came to be, and use your skills to find a way to break it. **Test your characters’ abilities and lean into your backstories, because Strahd will surely attempt to use those things against you. **Play chess with Count Strahd von Zarovich in a game where you are sometimes the pawns! In this campaign, I focus on the things that make horror fun. Not bloodbaths or jumpscares, but the sinister, creepy atmosphere and the discomfort of not knowing what lurks in the darkness just beyond the reach of your torch light. Something is out there…waiting for you. Free Session Zero to go over character creation and the encyclopedia of rules, guidelines, and changes that is geared not to overwhelm, but to ensure that fun is had by all participants.

About me

I got into D&D back in the olden days when the game was young and after all this time I'm still not bored with it! Playing is fun but I find DMing more rewarding as I love to create new places, scenarios, and characters, and to cook up original plots and adventures. I love to make maps and guide players through them, but I also appreciate theater of the mind when maps can be too limiting. I love teaching new people to play, so feel free to message me if you are too intimidated to join a group. Solo games are always an option!

Character creation

Creating your character

I can help you with character creation during session 0 (if you join after the campaign starts your session 0 will be at a time of your choosing outside of the game time) and your level will be dependent on where we are at that time. If you start before the campaign, you should be level one. Message me with any questions.

The current party

I like to balance terrifying encounters with more lighthearted scenarios, fun NPCs, and unexpected situations. If you want gritty realism, this is not the campaign for you, but if you're looking to escape into a land of mystery and gothic horror with the chance to bond with a fun group (and maybe make friends for life), you've come to the right place!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a free FoundryVTT account for maps and gameplay, and a Discord account for voice and chat with a working microphone. I don't use video, (although you can if you like) so don't worry about having a camera. Digital dice can be rolled in Foundry, on D&D Beyond, or you can use your own physical dice and call out the numbers - dice goblins welcome!

What dysonrules brings to the table

I will create amazing tokens frames for your characters, provide all maps and handouts via FoundryVTT and Discord, and give you a super cool experience that you won't soon forget.

How dysonrules creates a safe table

We will go over all of the warnings during Session 0 and draw hard lines through things that are unacceptable to players. Despite the overall horror theme of this module, phobias are real and I want everyone to be able to play and have a good time. I use Discord for all voice and chat, so players can use the Discord PM to send me a private note anytime they need to discuss something or call a timeout. Aftercare will be tailored to the player's need and will be gone over during Session 0. You will need a free Forge VTT account for maps and combat and I will send you the link to get one if you don't already have it.
