About MDC

I've been GM-ing since 2020, using systems such as Dungeons and Dragons 5e, Kids on Bikes, Kids on Brooms, Mutants and Masterminds, Honey Heist, Fiasco, and more! Further, I am the editor, producer, player, and Game Master for "The Playing For Laughs Podcast" and "Side Cast: Another Playing For Laughs Podcast" where me and a bunch of my friends from our comedy improv troupe play D&D and more!

I became a GM because

I knew it would be the best way for me to learn the systems I wanted to play in, and from there I just fell in love with helping people tell fantastic stories in worlds they help build.

People are always surprised when I tell them

... that I've only been doing this since 2020! I'm a quick learner and have created some truly immersive experiences for players at the table that they are constantly wanting to recreate. What a compliment!!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Committed, knowledgable, and fun.

How MDC runs games

Games should be fun and engaging, and it's my role as GM to ensure that everyone feels safe, has fun, and create environments for the players to out of the game/session what they came in hoping for. I use my improv training to "yes/and" as much as possible. I have a background in theater and storytelling. I bring my experience in character development, improvisation, and audience engagement to my game mastering. My style is immersive and cinematic. I am also skilled at managing large groups and ensuring that everyone has a chance to contribute to the game.

I deal with rules issues by...

Negotiating the balance between the RAW and spirit in which they were written. It's also important to remember that when an adjustment is made to the rules for the sake of role playing, important moments, etc., that it is clearly stated if this new rule is canon OR just for that moment.

Rules are...

An important framework to build a world and game around. AND... when engaging in a world that is being built as we play it, it's important to know that there will be times when the rules aren't clear... OR a player wants to do something super cool outside of the rules. And that's ok and fun!

When it comes to voices

... they're not important to have from my players. I love to try new voices, but there's absolutely no pressure for players at the table to make up or use a different voice for their character. No pressure there from me.

MDC's ideal table

Players who love role playing, improvising, being silly, making puns, while also having a basic understanding of the system's design. Mastery is not necessary, and new players are more than welcome to my table at all times. My tables always focus on a player-first approach for fun, safety, communication, and storytelling.

Featured Prompts

I think it's a red flag when players...

1) don't listen to each other; 2) focus on themselves vs the collective and the story; 3) lean on "this is what my character would do" when the decision is harmful to other players and/or the story in general; 4) don't communicate if they will be absent; 5) verbally abuse, demean, or attack anyone.

I think metagaming...

is understandable for beginners to the game/table. It helps them process and understand not only the game, but role playing as an individual and as a group. However, metagaming needs to be guided and explained away from my table with understanding and empathy.

I think min/maxing...

is all well within the rules of the game, and should be allowed. That said... if min/maxing is allowed for the PCs, then it should also be allowed for the NPCs and BBEGs. So... be careful what you wish for... ;)
