Exalted 3rd Edition can be a difficult game to find a playgroup for. When most tabletop roleplayers think of a fantasy tabletop game, they immediately move to Pathfinder or Dungeons & Dragons, leaving other impressive fantasy TTRPGs in the dust.
So, if everyone is only running other fantasy systems, how can you find Exalted games?
Thankfully, there are some options available. I have listed a series of websites, Discord servers, subreddits, and forums below that have helped players find Exalted games online. Check out these various spaces at your own pace and find a game that is going to be right for you!
4. R/LFG or R/LFG_Europe
r/lfg and r/lfg_europe provide an easy way to get access to numerous online TTRPGs campaigns with players all over the world. These subreddits have lists of available games, granting potential players everything they need to know to get started. This includes things like game time, character restrictions, and beyond. If you respond to a game master posting, you may find yourself pulled into an adventure all your own.
One difficulty with r/lfg and r/lfg_europe is that finding niche game systems, such as Exalted, can be difficult. Most games that are promoted in the subreddits are D&D 5e related, so it may take some time to find a game master ready to run something in the Exalted system. In addition, when you spot an available game, you will need to move quickly. Otherwise, other players may get to the spots first.
3. Roll20 Discussion Forums
While Roll20 began as a near-exclusive D&D and Pathfinder virtual tabletop site, this is no longer the case. Throughout the site's development, Roll20 has been adding new systems to its catalog, including Exalted. Discussion forums have included players and game masters gauging interest in running games with the 3rd Edition system. With some luck and a close eye, you may be able to find some games hidden away, ready for you to jump in.
While Roll20 does have access to more niche game systems, it still can be tricky finding the right game for you. With limited session options, you may find yourself locked out of potential games due to game times, player numbers, or just not getting along with the group itself. Do your research before diving into a game — you do not want to dive in too early and get disappointed.
2. Exalted RPG Discord
The Exalted RPG Discord server is a place for fans of Exalted to talk shop about the system, what games and modules people are running, and even to run games on the server itself. There is a dedicated group chat that potential players and game masters both can post in, offering new games and submitting requests. Explore threads, find new games, and chat with game masters to get a sense if a game is right for you, all through the server.
But be aware: game postings can be hit-or-miss based on game master availability. As with many niche game systems, there are more players than game masters ready to go, which can cause long wait times for games to get started. Patience will need to be a virtue here.
1. StartPlaying
StartPlaying has everything you need to find your next TTRPG adventure. No matter the system, StartPlaying will have a game master ready to lead you on a wild adventure.
