Every month, StartPlaying Games works to help a charitable organization through the power of tabletop gaming. Our professional Game Masters donate their time, with proceeds from their games going towards the month’s chosen charity. For June of 2023, we’re donating to the Trevor Project.

To participate, GMs can opt to run a charity session during the month of June. The process is simple and automatic, GMs just select "special event" when scheduling a session, and select the "Trevor Project". This will automatically donate player booking fees from that session. StartPlaying will match the first $1,000 raised through games and donate it to the Trevor Project.

GMs can run any type of game or system they like for the event, and can run as many sessions they’d like. Players can easily find these charity sessions on StartPlaying as they’ll be marked with a Trevor Project logo and all games can be found on the landing page here.

Started in 1998, the Trevor Project aims to end suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning young people. LGBTQ youths are four times more likely to attempt suicide, and suicide itself is the second leading cause of death among young people in the USA. The Trevor project offers programs for support, education, advocacy, and more in pursuit of this goal.

“Mental health awareness and action lines up with StartPlaying’s goals,” says co-founder Devin Chulick. StartPlaying ran a similar charity event last month, donating to the Asian Mental Health Collective.
