StartPlaying Games partners with a charity organization each month to raise money for a worthy cause. StartPlaying waives its usual 10% booking fee for all game sessions that are part of the event and donates proceeds to the charity. Game Masters can choose to donate any of their games, whatever works for their schedule and means. StartPlaying will also match the first $1000 raised.

The chosen charity for October is Take This

Take This is a non-profit mental health organization that works specifically in gaming. Their mission is to provide “comprehensive resources and support that is tailored for the unique needs of the game development community and embraces the diverse cultures and issues of the game community. We combine clinical best practice with a love of all things gamer, providing a safe, accepting space for gamers and developers. We work in a spirit of partnership with other organizations addressing these issues among game enthusiasts, streamers, and creators.”

GMs who wish to run a charity game just need to check the "special event" box when scheduling a session. A drop-down menu will appear, in which you should see a “Take This” option. StartPlaying will then automatically waive the player fee and send all proceeds from the session to Take This. Feel free to run any system for any price, anything’s game as long as you check the box.

Players who want to play for Take This should look for game listings that bear an orange shield in the top corner. This is the Take This logo, and it lets you know which games are part of the charity event.

October is the perfect time for spooky-themed games or trying out horror systems. And with Take This, you can turn your curiosity into a powerful force to support mental health. Check out our special games for Take This, and have some fun while supporting a great cause!
