Here comes a fresh batch of tabletop RPG news, straight from StartPlaying Games! After last week was full of big events and announcements, this week took a bit of a breather. Still, we saw Alien RPG publisher Free League pull PDF support from Alchemy VTT, classic Dragonlance authors Weis and Hickman announce a new work, and Critical Role collab with Among Us.

Free League Titles No Longer Available As PDFs Through Alchemy

As of August 21, you will no longer be able to download PDF versions of Free League games you’ve purchased through Alchemy VTT. Some Alchemy users received this news via email on August 13. According to the email, Free League made the request for Alchemy to stop offering PDF downloads to users who purchase VTT versions of their products.

Alchemy doesn’t offer PDFs for every game you buy through its Marketplace, but had until recently included digital copies with many Free League games. Users who own the following Free League titles can still download their PDFs until August 21 at 10am PST:

  • Ruins of Symbaroum
  • Tales From the Loop
  • Mutant Year Zero
  • Twilight 2000
  • Mörk Borg
  • Symbaroum
  • Dragonbane
  • Forbidden Lands
  • Vaesen
  • Coriolis: The Third Horizon

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman Writing New Dragonlance Novels

A new trilogy of Dragonlance books is on the way from Weis and Hickman, with the first set for 2026. The series is called Dragonlance Legacies and will start with a book called War Wizard.

According to EN World, the book follows the wizard Magius and the Solamnic Knight Huma. Random House Worlds is publishing the trilogy, with Weis and Hickman dodging any comments about Wizards of the Coast’s involvement. When asked how they may tie into Richard A. Knaak’s The Legend of Huma, Weis replied that this was her and Hickman’s story.

Critical Role-Among Us Collab Gives Costumes And Chetney Kill Animation

Among Us developer Innersloth released a limited time collaboration with Critical Role. Beloved CR characters like Jester, Vax, Laudna, and Chetney join the crew as costumes for your avatar. Players will need to get Gilmore’s Curious Cosmicube from the Among Us store to unlock the outfits. You have until November 12 to buy the Cosmicube.

While most of the items allow you to cosplay as members of Vox Machina, Mighty Nein, and Bells Hells (and have their pets!), one outfit in particular has a bonus. Those who equip the full Chetney costume and play as the imposter will have a special kill animation where they transform into a werewolf.

That brings this week’s batch of news to a close! Have fun if you play this weekend, and may your dice be kind.
