Ordonia: Sandstorms and Steel
Ancient magi-tech secrets lie just below the sands as unseen forces seek forbidden knowledge that could bring prosperity... or calamitous ruin.
About the adventure
This story takes place in a handcrafted desert continent still recovering from a war thousands of years ago against a great construct menace. The people of this land clash. Overzealous Dwarves, intent on researching and rediscovering lost arcane magi-tech. Superstitious Yuan-ti, uncertain and cautious about dredging up old evils. Mistrustful Khenra, adamant about keeping such secrets left in the sands to forever corrode and stopping such mistakes from happening again. Hired by an unknown benefactor you'll be the deciding factor in this lands darkest hour, calamity speeding ever closer over the storm blasted dunes.

About me
Heya! Call me Lance. I'm 26 and have been playing D&D 5e for roughly 10 years and have been a DM for 5-6 years of that time. Huge gamer, furry (not the cringe kind I swear) and novice writer in my free time. I enjoy creating sessions and unique stories for players to explore and interact with, letting PC's be apart of the world and affect things. I use a handcrafted plane/world that I run my games on: Ordonia, a plane with lot's of mystery, magic, arcane tech, dragons, gods, and all kinds of wildly different places you can end up.

Character creation
Creating your character
I use a combination of D&D 5e and the new 2024 rules. The campaign will start at level 3. Characters will be chatted on and worked on during session 0 though I am willing to chat with each player privately regarding backstories and such to go further into detail. 1. If you play with a 2024 class you MUST use both a class and subclass from that rule set, same for OG 20124 5e. mixing the classes and subclasses from the two rule sets get's weird. Though I am not above making adjustments and small tweaks to classes and etc to help make it more fun (Making Hunters Mark none concentration for example on Ranger) 2. Any Official WotC race is fair game regardless of you using 5e or 2024 rules, though ask about older versions of races before going with them. 3. Starting equipment or starting gold is fair game though if starting gold is chosen we will use the 2024 ruling for it. 4. How stats and HP will be handled will be determined during session 0 though I am partial to using either point buy or a modified stat array, with a few ideas for how to handle health from just average to a special rolling system. 5. Make characters that will work WITH the party. Friction and conflict on a basic level can be fun but not any that take away from the story or is just disruptive. This means yes you can play an Evil PC, but do your best to make them want to help the party and not work against them. 6. Homebrew, within reason, is fair game for character creation. Just run everything by me first and it will need brought before the whole table during session 0.
Players are level 3. Light homebrew, within reason, is on the table for character creation. Mix of OG 5e and the newer 2024 rules. Homebrew World/Setting.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A mic, Discord, Roll20, D&D beyond, and a sense of fun! I have an expanded world lore page on request for the players to read if they so choose but it's not a requirement for the campaign itself. Most of my lore is very malleable so players can better add their own touch to my world and feel apart of it, so do bring some lore ideas of your own for your PC's. (Though just respect it is my world I've been working on and don't expect huge lore changes... unless i really love the idea's you bring! never know.) I will have a set of table rules I run with in my games that I will provide. going over them will be important though I'm also open to other house rule suggestions, so do bring a list of house rules of your own to run by me and the table to help create the best game possible. I do want my players to have a series of PC concepts before session 0, as I do want everyone to play what they want but also be open to keeping the party balanced (No, I'm not allowing a party full of rogues, sorry lol)
What Dylan brings to the table
As a DM I'm very much flexible on rules and such as I like people having fun do my best to avoid stepping on players toes, A very "Yes, AND" and "No, BUT" DM, doing my best to not hard wall players from choices. I use rule of cool a fair amount within reason. In terms of the types of games I run they are lightly serious with plenty of room for joking as long as it doesn't keep us off track to long or halt story progression and harm the experience of the other people at the table. I do my best to use music (Discord be willing) and I'll attempt to voice act though I'm no professional voice actor. I use roll20 for my VTT, with both D&D beyond and Roll20 for sheets.
Homebrew rules
1. Out of combat, healing spells will always heal the max possible amount. 2. On a natural 1 or 20 you gain inspiration if you have none and each session you start with inspiration. Inspiration can be used to reroll any d20 roll or can be used before to grant advantage. Max 1 DM Inspiration, granted by me for roleplaying flaws, bonds, or other aspects of your character in key moments or other events, can be held onto indefinitely. You cannot give your inspiration to other players. 3. When you fall to 0 hitpoints and unconscious you suffer one level of exhaustion. 4. Short rests are a minimum of 2 hours. Total short rests allowed between long rests is 2 maximum. Long rests are a minimum of 8 hours (Barring special race, class, or subclass rules).

How Dylan creates a safe table
Player can expect a fairly chill session 0 where we will, as a group and table, chat about expectations for the game, write down notes and information about everything needed above table, and do our best to clearly define limits for the topics that people are ok or uncomfortable with. During game time I have planned breaks halfway through session to relax, eat, etc and check in on how everyone is feeling. Likewise I fully encourage players to chat with me, in public or private chat, about things they are worried about or uncomfortable with before and after sessions. Communication is key.
