About the adventure

"Out of the ruins, Out from the wreckage, Can't make the same mistake this time. We are the children, The last generation, We are the ones they left behind." We Don't Need Another Hero, Tina Turner The Elder, who has guided you for so long, is dying. With supplies dwindling and factions forming among your kin, the time has come to venture forth from the safety of the Ark - to explore the dangers of the Zone, the perils of the old world and the strange beings left in its wake... With only the supplies you can scrounge and your own strange, mutant abilities, can YOU forge a future for the people of the Ark? - Build a new home for mutant-kind after the destruction of the old world. - Explore the dangers and treasures of Zone - the ruins of civilisation. - Exploit your Mutant abilities to give you the edge you need. - Defend your people against radioactive monstrosities and the remnants of humanity. In Mutant: Year Zero, you are a post-human with a unique mutation that may give you an edge in surviving the wastelands of the world that was destroyed. From your Ark you will: - Develop projects to improve your home base. - Forge alliances with - or got war against - unknown factions that also survived. - Try to rebuild the history of the past to uncover the secrets of your origin.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Party notes

This iteration of the Year Zero setting will use the uplifted animal mutants of Genlab Alpha for a short campaign to learn the system and ruleset.

Additional details

How to prepare

You'll need a solid internet connection, free accounts with Discord and Roll20 - some games use Zoom - discussed in Session 0, but also free. Headphones are a big help to cut feedback sounds, and a quiet place to play.

What I provide

I can show you the world... (cue cheesy music)

Gameplay details

Please note that the presence of a Content Warning Tag is not a guarantee of it appearing in games. I choose to err on the side of caution and warn of possible content - this is NOT a license to do it and the list will be modified by ALL Lines and Veils. Before play, there will be a Lines and Veils questionnaire sent out. During Session 0, we will build characters, discuss the group safety tools and work on developing a collaborative group dynamic. Racism, Sexism, Homophobia, Transphobia, and Ableism are not accepted at my table and I'm not a fan of Player vs. Player (dramatic tension is good, pointless fights are bad!)

How will character creation work

Session Zero for character creation, because the process is a collaborative one - you also create the community and it's location as a 'meta-character'. Latecomers will be able to see what is already in play and make choices accordingly.
