About Zed Huff

Hi, my name's Zed, artist, graphic designer and Forever GM with 8 years running under his belt. Originally I started running D&D 5E, like a lot of people in the current TTRPG landscape, ran a few campaigns, decided to switch it up with other systems that had caught my eye, so I went towards Pathfinder 2e, then hopping into Cyberpunk RED and subsequently going from interest in World of Darkness to running a few sessions and left wanting more. My Cyberpunk RED journey proper, after running a small game for my table, was playing in a table hosted through here, so this platform has been in my eye for a while now, two years if I'm not mistaken, and it's been a blast! I would like to give the same opportunity for other players to enjoy the same experience I did, and I'd be honored to be the one to take you there! There's lots of systems that I have in my eye, but regular time constraints and lack of table time keep me to the table I've been with for a while. I have GMed for many different people with different perspectives and experiences, following different themes and settings (one of my tables was run entirely in a personal homebrew world, actually!), so I feel I have a decent handle on giving the right atmosphere for each game I run!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Resourceful, knowledgeable, innovative.

How Zed Huff runs games

Roleplay-forward with combat being a treat or something to mark sessions of serious moments or chaos, all set up for the table. I like giving players opportunities to explore their characters everywhere, including in exploration and combat! I believe in player agency changing stories and switching things around when player agency changes the "flow" of where the session or even the campaign was going towards. I use campaign modules to set a guideline, but player choices will always lead the way into the next step! I love giving a chance to let your imagination fly with Theater of the Mind sessions as well as more concrete and punchy combat encounters set on a map, and while I will follow rules as written most of the time, I like to let rulings be more important than rules. Sometimes you just gotta bend that rulebook to let your players feel awesome at that important moment in the game. But in the end, the rules give us the structure to enjoy the narratives available in play, and respecting them helps keep both the players and the GM grounded, which is important for group narratives as well as pro-social play on a table.

I deal with rules issues by...

consulting the text, seeing if the rule properly applies to the situation, and make a call on it, keeping to the spirit of the rules.

When it comes to voices

I try to give off the personality if I can't completely replicate the intended voice. I may not be a professional voice actor, but I like giving NPCs personality.

Zed Huff's ideal table

Roleplay forward, but not ignoring combat enthusiasts. Sometimes the most tense situations don't happen on the battlefield, some take place over a glass of wine and polite conversation. I like to make the table a good place to cut loose from our daily grind, where we can relax and sometimes even blow off steam from our frustrations by whacking on monsters and bad guys with friends. Rules are a good guideline but not the be-all, end-all for play at my table, I'll bend rules to allow for roleplay as long as it's not too big a break from the rules (no OP items/abilities when you're a starting level) but I'll always try to keep the base the rules give us so we can get more bang for your buck. I try and make sure that the table is welcoming, but people trying to police others will not be allowed. We all have our own experiences, the table is to bring us together and have fun. No bigots, no bullies.

I am for a vibe that's...

chill but engaged. Jokes, small tangents when people get into it and hype for what your fellow player all come nicely together. In the end, these are games, and playing them should be fun.

I love it when a player

subverts my expectations by coming up with a different solution to the problem presented, even going over what a given module may have given as a possibility.

I think metagaming...

ruins the fun for the participants, both players and GMs.
