About Chris

A humble player of rpgs who has been behind and in front of the screen consistently for over a decade, I am a lover of all editions of D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun and WoD. Experience in running 3.5, 4th and 5th edition D&D, Shadowrun, various WoD and CoD campaigns and games both independent and obscure. My games run from simple, heartfelt adventures to deep social dramas and good old-fashioned dungeon diving!

How Chris runs games

In the games that I run, players can expect to be dropped in rich, vibrant and living worlds populated by intriguing characters with their own wants, needs, and objectives. They will find plenty of opportunities for deep and engaging roleplay with these characters, as well as attend cultural events and explore the lore and heritage of these realms to their heart's content. For the adventurous side of the game, players can expect to explore sweeping landscapes and living dungeons teeming with life and activity in both my fantasy and modern settings. Combat encounters are often memorable set-pieces that involve dynamic movement, objectives to take, crucial objects which may manipulate the battlefield, or a series of mini-encounters on their way to a grand climax. Inspiration for these encounters ranges from swashbuckling adventure films to John Wick. Games both modern and fantasy will feature intrigue, exploration, and even the potential of heists and high-stakes operations. Finally, each setting for these games is crafted to be persistent - the actions of players in one game have an impact on the world at large, giving each campaign a West Marches feel. Actions, decisions and events will resonate in the world, informing its history and shaping the play experience for the next group of players who visit the setting.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Guillermo del Toro

My games focus on...

The players overcoming personal challenges in order to find the strength to take on a greater, larger threat. Everyone is on a journey of discovery and finding where they fit, as well as define their own purpose in life. They become their own heroes, as well as to each other.

Rules are...

A good baseline to have and a place to fall back to when adjudication is required, but when extreme or unusual circumstances arise, I am more than happy to let the players try (within reason) and let the dice decide.

Chris's ideal table

The general vibe of my tables is very casual and easy-going, to better put players at ease for the challenges they are to face. The players that fit best at my table are those willing to explore and take chances - ask questions and try to think of outside-the-box solutions. When a player is presented with Options A and B, I delight in when they find another solution I had never thought of, and are encouraged to take such a chance if it is feasible. Horror and shock are elements I play with as well to build tension in a scene. When confronted by a collection of corpses in a morgue, they are as likely to leap off the tables as one is to begin speaking in tongues. Or perhaps, the heads will slough off and grow wings or legs before lunging at the party...

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Tense moments, memorable NPCs, and layered plots

I love it when a player

Become engrossed in the story and take on the mindset of their character.

My table is not the place for...

People who are afraid of their characters getting hurt. As players, your safety and comfort is of the highest importance to me, and they will not be compromised. As for your characters, they are the ones facing these trials in order to overcome them.
