About Darkly Marie
I've been running TTRPGs since 2012 and have experience running many different systems. I've run professional games in local stores as well as hosted countless games online. As a hobby game designer I have a strong understanding of TTRPG design and have developed many different homebrew settings. As an artist and hobby writer it means that my players get to experience custom artwork (on occasion) when running more homebrew centric campaigns. my players get in-depth story experiences along with extensive worlds for players to sink their teeth into. I have a minor background in theatre and do my best to provide various voices to NPCs that the players encounter and paint the scene with my words.

I became a GM because
I love telling stories and sharing those stories with friends. I strongly believe in the power of collaborative storytelling in how it can create experiences and memories that last for a long time.
My favorite books are
The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie The Blade Itself Before They Are Hanged The Last Argument of Kings The books are a low-magic grimdark setting filled with fantastic characters and brutal world. However, Abercrombie knows when to sprinkle in moments levity.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Working on improving my creative arts. I like to write as a hobby as well as draw and design video games as hobbies too. But also I daydream about running my next TTRPG session.
How Darkly Marie runs games
I can do whatever my players prefer, but I enjoy engaging RP and dangerous combat encounters. I feel that failure and character flaws are an important aspect of storytelling. I love building worlds for players to engage with and deep NPCs that players can grow to learn about.

I prep by
My prep consists of writing up simple outlines for key story beats and creating setting and story primers that have brief explanations of what players should expect for the game.
Rules are...
Rules are important as they provide the framework for the game to work, but aren't made of stone and can be adjusted to better fit scenes playing out to increase the fun at the table. So long as the table agrees and it's kept consistent, then it's fine to allow the occasional "Rule of Cool".
When it comes to voices
When it comes to giving characters voices, I do my best and try to keep them consistent. But I'm no voice actor. lol
Darkly Marie's ideal table
I like when my players fully engage with the world, story, and other player's in the game. People that really want to be apart of the story and do their best to role-play as their characters.

I think metagaming...
I think metagaming has its place for certain things and even certain systems. Games like Shadowrun for example is a system where planning is important and sometimes its quicker to just hash out the details out of character for a moment. Where as D&D is better when metagaming is near non-existent.
I think min/maxing...
To me a character is best when they have strengths and flaws so if someone is taking their min/maxed character through a campaign, then their low stats need to be more than just for the sake of mechanics.
My perfect party mix is
People that are willing to have fun and take things serious when relevant to the scene unfolding. Having that switch to know when it's fine to be a little goofy and when it time to lock in as their character.
