About GM Dayv
A man of many hobbies, but table top roleplaying will always be my favorite one. I have been playing various RPGs for 43 years, and GMing for most of that time. What I live for in gaming is those special moments when something happens and the entire table laughs so hard they have trouble breathing. The moment when in a horror game you actually feel a skin tingling fear. When RPG pirates are so moved by camaraderie that one player writes a sea chanty about it to sing in game. When a perfect plot element comes together and we all cheer. To me that is the way to "win" an RPG - to create real fun for the whole group. I believe that all sorts of approaches can create that fun - crunchy or role play heavy, old systems and new systems, theatre of the mind and tactical role play. My intent is always to try make that possible for everyone at the table through things like sharing the spotlight, calling out your character backstory, and creating stories that revolve strongly around a given character. I also endeavor to never leave you "stuck" for a way forward on a plot. I aspire to be a fan of the player characters.

I got started GMing...
At age 10 when I got the Moldvay Basic DnD box set (pink box). I was the only one with the game.
How GM Dayv runs games
I prefer the fiction first approach many games take (such as Blades in the Dark) and that is how I approach scenes - I want the rules to represent the fictional position of your character in the best (and hopefully most fun) way possible. For a theater of the mind game this means I really want you as a player to describe where your character is in the scene and what they are doing - if I didn't already describe a detail you can fill it in. I always aspire to "Yes and..." your action if I can while making the story fun. The key is just not to overwrite or rewrite the established facts of the story and leave other player characters to their path. I tend to play loose with an adventure - most of my stories will have a few NPCs and then only the outlines and scenes that are needed for the plot. Everything else I will improv as needed. I usually avoid rails so it won't be relevant to "Derail" a game. In pacing I tend to follow a pattern in most game that I learned with Marvel Heroic: 1. Non action Scene 2. Action/Combat Scene 3. Recovery Scene My goal is to get us through that cycle in one session. Downtime, shopping, leveling and so forth I would rather handle through an auxiliary session or through Discord.

My favorite trope is...
the Five Man Band! I even created my owner RPG once built around this trope.

GM Dayv's ideal table
My vibe is one where we are co-creators, the GM is another player that just happens to be running the game. Let's try to agree on things that add best to the story.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
roleplay and character focus
I love it when a player
"Takes the stick" and adds to the story of the game in a way that fits
My perfect party mix is
I do like a nice Five Person Band table - Singer, Lead Guitar, Bass, Drummers, and Keyboards aka "Leader, Lancer, Big Guy, Smart Guy, and Heart" because this feels like it helps the flow of the roleplay.
