Star Trek: Frontier's Edge

Star Trek: Frontier's Edge

The Dominion War is won. Starfleet badly needs ships & crew. Can the Federation still stand up to its enemies? It's up to You!

Warning: Game may not start today
It may be too close to this game's start time, or this game may have too few players to start today. This Game Master needs at least 16 hours to prepare for a new player to join and at least 3 players to start the game today. Joining now may not leave enough time to set you up.
About the adventure

The Dominion War is over! The bloodiest conflict in Federation history touched every major power in three quadrants. What will happen in its wake? Starfleet is short on ships and personnel. Member worlds and species have suffered greatly. So have the Federation's allies--who could become enemies again, now the Dominion threat is gone. The Federation is rebuilding. Starfleet wants to put starships back on the edges of the Federation to support our allies, show strength to possible foes, and explore the Frontier. When every conflict ends, however, there are always those who thrived on the chaos and are not ready to give up the freedom and power that chaos provided them. Combining the best elements of tabletop and online roleplaying games this campaign will take place in an audio video meeting, supplemented between games with player and character discussions, images, files, clues and Easter eggs to help expand the mythology, mystery and adventure! As a team, players will choose their starship. Like the sailors of old Earth, her captain and crew will circumnavigate the entirety of the Federation--and beyond. In a return to the classic Five Year Missions of Starfleet's early years, your crew will help a battered Federation rebuild, expand and explore in the experience of a lifetime...on the Frontier's Edge! This campaign takes place after the Dominion War. Ships and personnel are in short supply. Novice and intermediate player characters will be thrust into new mid-level roles...and beyond! I am a Rules Flexible GM, not a Rules As Written GM: in other words I follow the STA Second Edition rules but always put the story and the characters above strict adherence to the rules. I value backstory exploration, NPC interactions and growing character relationships. This campaign, like the Federation, strives for IDIC: infinite diversity in infinite combinations. All players are encouraged to consider this a safe space to explore, and enrich each others' worlds with their perspectives. All levels of gamers and star trek fans are welcome, the only requirement is that you care about growing your skill in a cooperative session. Campaign art provided by Modiphius Entertainment. About me

Stories are my passion. I'm a writer, podcaster and voice actor but most of all I am a storyteller who values unique, immersive journeys. My goal is to create a comfortable, safe environment for players/characters to have fun exploring. Each session will be role-play heavy and rules-light, with a collaborative story giving every player a chance to shine. I will create our adventure from scratch to surprise, engage and leave you eager for the next session. If you're just starting out with RPG's or Star Trek Adventures I'll help you create the character, understand the basics and jump right in! I got my first D&D manual when I was nine, but I took a long break. Later I became a professional actor and Improv performer, then a narrator and producer of podcasts and audio-books. A friend re-introduced me to D&D during COVID, which reignited the passion to play. In turn, playing inspired me to run games for others.

John's engaging and masterful at his control of the ship (get it)..... Anyways he works with his players and really tries to make sure everyone's having a good time as well on the same page. His delivery of the story is great and the way he makes connections with your various backstories fits together neatly, not lazily shoehorned in. Very pro level.

I smile when a session is about to begin, and when I'm thinking about the next one. I have a huge grin on my face and a powerful, exhilarated energy rippling on after the end of one. I've had many bad experiences with other people in the past, but I've continually experienced now throughout multiple sessions with John what it's like to co-create with someone who genuinely loves what they do and takes joy in it, and shares that energy of open possibilities and creative agency. Being able to trust your GM is so much more crucial than many people realize. It's changed how I play, the stance I take, and allows me to open myself to the sheer wonders of genuine exploration and creative expression. I don't have to fear what move the GM will take to try to 'defeat' me in an unspoken battle of ego. He's here to share a constantly evolving and growing story and experience that everyone at the table gets to help define with their choices and their hearts. I don't for a second regret choosing to join the games he runs.

Made me feel extremely welcome and knows how to set the tone and atmosphere and is great at teaching how to play the game and character creation.

Friendly and very easy to work with on chargen. Sets a tone but leaves it to the players to decide the path taken.

I was a new player joining an established group. John made me feel welcome, and quickly integrated my character into the ongoing plot.

Character creation
Creating your character

Character creation will be done during 'Session 0' using BC Holme's excellent Star Trek Adventures character generator. Mid-career or department heads are preferred for this adventure (the joy of this RPG is that it encourages the creation of 'secondary' characters of other ranks/ages). Feel free to get in touch to discuss olcharacters you would like to play!

The current party

Popular (Available) roles for a Star Trek campaign: Captain First Officer Tactical Officer Science Officer Chief Medical Officer Chief Engineer Ops/Communcations/Specialist Conn (Pilot/Navigator) Chief of Security Or ANYTHING else you want to run by me. I'm open to making this game suit all of its players, not the other way around.
