Intro to D&D: Tomb Raiders of Chult

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

**LGBTQ Friendly** **Beginner Friendly** Zombies AND Dinosaurs. Your heroes are dying; wasting away a little more each day. Priests can no longer raise the dead - it's almost as if their souls are snatched away, out of reach. Snatches of dreams and divination point towards Chult, a remote peninsula off the coast of Calimsham in the Trackless Sea. Somewhere in those jungles lies the answer, and hopefully the cure. Welcome to Chult, a tropical wilderness composed mostly of jungles, plateaus, impassable mountains, and belching volcanoes. Fabled mines and ancient ruins of lost empires are said to be hidden there; wealth for those bold enough to seek it. Come join us in *Faerun*, a world of magic and wonder, where simple folk who rise to the occasion can become legendary heroes in their own time. ...or get eaten by dragons... Maybe both... This campaign will take player characters from 1st to about 11th level. I expect it may run 12 to 14 sessions. I am a "forever GM" and enjoy introducing people to this fascinating game of shared story and imagination. The rules are sometimes not so much rules as guidelines, and the dice produce moments that no-one can predict. So whether you're new to the game, or an old hand, let's travel together and see where the road takes us, as we brave the mysteries, dangers, and wonders of Chult!

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Party notes

Our party has arrived in Port Nyanzaru: Pepper, a dwarven cleric of Ilmater; Billy, a human paladin; Vennio, an elven sorcerer; and Artis Flemard, a halfling ranger. Next session (June 7th) they will continue exploring the city and surrounding area.

How to prepare

You will need at minimum: (along with a computer and internet connection) 1. An account on Roll20 (free) 2. An account on Discord (free) I highly recommend using an external mic and headphones during the sessions. Sometimes feedback/echoing is a problem without them.

What I provide

Players can access content from core rulebooks and some additional content thru my Roll20 game and my campaign on D&D Beyond. So basically, you don't even have to purchase the Player's Handbook, unless you really want a hardcopy. As Game Master, I will handle all the set up of tokens, maps, and handouts on the virtual tabletop (Roll20). If you've never played on Roll20, don't worry. It's pretty user friendly, and totally web based - you don't need to download anything. A bonus; you can access the game content even when I'm not logged in. I will also maintain a dedicated private text channel on Discord for in-game and out-of-game use.

Gameplay details

Lines and Veils, as well as Rules of the Table will be posted in discord chat. During session 0, players will have the opportunity to add to both. A 15 minute break will be called about midway through each session. Role-playing is very important (that's what the "RP" stands for), and I will be providing prompts and opportunities in each session to facilitate development of PC backstory and relationships.

How will character creation work

We will probably spend part of session 0 on character creation. Characters will start the campaign at 1st level. Players may use the character creation tools on Roll20 (recommended), or D&D Beyond. We will be using the "point-buy" approach to determining ability scores. If you're not sure about how to create a character, I am happy to meet with you before our first session to help create/fine tune your new character. If you join later in the campaign, your player-character will start at a level commensurate with the party. I will meet with you before your first session to review the table rules and help with character creation.
