Gardens of Fog: A Mental Health Awareness Mini-Campaign for 5e
About the adventure
This adventure, developed by WotC and the mental health professionals at Take This, sees our intrepid heroes travel into the mind of an ally struggling with depression and anxiety...and these naturally occurring mental states have been coopted and exacerbated by a supernatural force bent upon their ally's destruction. If our heroes wish to save their friend, they must confront these supernatural afflictions to give their ally the strength and skills to face the real-world afflictions that started it all. This campaign will be run across two or three sessions in coordination with a mindfulness and mental health practitioner from The Mindful Space. They will help discuss the safety tools during Session 0, perform aftercare after each session, and be on standby throughout the campaign to assist on an as-needed basis. (The assistance provided by The Mindful Space is meant to be educational and does not constitute medical care or therapy.)

About me
I'm a published short story author, and telling stories has always been part of my life. Through my work with Lion's Head Press, I've written my own third-party content for both D&D 5e and the Paragon system, and I've released my own TTRPGs at: lionsheadpress.itch.io. I occasionally partner with The Mindful Space to offer adventures designed to increase mental health awareness and resilience.

Character creation
Creating your character
Players are encouraged to create a 3rd-level character beforehand that they bring with them to Session 0. These characters should be created using D&D 5e rules from some official WotC sourcebook (e.g., Player's Handbook, Xanathar's, Tasha's, etc.). For stats, take the Standard Array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8 rather than rolling for each stat individually. Alternatively, players can use one of the pregenerated characters I'll bring with me. Please note that customizing pregen characters is not possible beyond simple reflavoring (e.g., pretending your pregen Variant Human is an Elf without changing their abilities, giving them darkvision, etc.). So, if you desperately wish to play as a specific combination of some race, class, and subclass, you are strongly encouraged to create your own character.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need: -A working mic -A working webcam (if you wish to use physical X, N, and O cards; otherwise, you don't need to appear onscreen) -The appropriate dice (e.g., d20s, d6s, etc.), either electronic or physical -A 3rd-level character, created using D&D 5e rules from some official WotC sourcebook (e.g., Player's Handbook, Xanathar's, Tasha's, etc.). For stats, take the Standard Array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8 rather than rolling for each stat individually. Alternatively, you can use one of the pregenerated characters I'll bring with me. -A character sheet to track your character's stats and resources -Games will be played using Google Meet; be sure to log in at least 10 minutes before the game begins to allow wiggle room for technical difficulties.
What Jonathan brings to the table
My autistic special interest is TTRPG rules, so I enjoy crunch and getting into the rules...but I'm also a storyteller who's a sucker for a great narrative moment. I generally play Rules As Written, but I'll improvise table rules as needed to fit the occasion. I do a range of accents/impressions (with a range in quality, lol), and I tend to do more roleplay than not.

Safety
How Jonathan creates a safe table
Safety tools will be outlined in detail in Session 0. I encourage the use of physical X, N, and O cards, and I try to remind all players of how to use them at the beginning of each session. For this Mental Health Awareness module, I'll be teaming up with a mental health practitioner from The Mindful Space, who will be handling aftercare and will be on standby to moderate the use of the Luxton technique, Open Door policy, and breaks. (The assistance provided by The Mindful Space is meant to be educational and does not constitute medical care or therapy.)
