About the adventure

🤠🧚‍♂️💀 Welcome to Henrysville, West Texas. The year is 1894. The world is plagued by all manner of Lovecraftian monstrosities, dark witchery, and fae trickery — but frontier towns in the American West might have it the hardest of all. There’s monsters, there’s cursed people (like werewolves or vampires, “skeeters” in slang), folks who pursue magic openly, and those who rely on it to secretly help their lives — but to a broad conservative swath of society, they’re all “horrors.” Every sheriff’s department has two crews of deputies and rangers — each jokingly called the “people police” and the “horror hunters”. Bounty hunters bring in all manner of weird dangerous fae creatures in exchange for bounties, and hedge-witches on the edges of town cure kids’ ailments with “old family recipes”. The first few breaths of spring find the town grasping for good news after a cold and brutal winter. There were always horrors on the frontier, but townsfolk, mainly kids, were disappearin’ left and right. It’s gonna be up to y’all to get to the bottom of it. The story and themes are dark, but this is intended to be a fun and funny, gunslingin’, spell-slingin’, politickin’ DnD 5e campaign, set in an alternate history American West.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be built collaboratively in Session Zero and privately before session one, but players are encouraged to come in with ideas/draft characters! There will be a D&D Beyond link for character creation that will provide players with extensive character and class options to choose from. Characters will start at level 2 or 3, get a free feat, and their stats/HP will be rolled “in front of the board” with the group in Session Zero (don’t worry, I’ll intervene if one or two players roll obscenely low across stats lol).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Players will need a webcam and mic to participate, as well as a (free!) DnD Beyond account for character creation and use of the virtual tabletop! We can make paper and pen and physical dice work if needed, but I think this helps immersion. - We can review rules in our Session Zero, please flag any points you’d like me to address whenever possible.

What brooklyngoblin brings to the table

🎲 D&D Beyond Master tier account with enhanced options for character creation and virtual tablestop 🤠 Fun character voices, ambient noise and background music playlists, and illustrated maps ⚔️ Creative combat encounters that drive the story forward, can definitely ratchet up the difficulty for a more tactical group 📖 Know the rules back to front and add some quality of life improvement rules changes, but really enjoy a good Rule of Cool moment when it comes
