About the adventure
You're a teenager at Higginsville Highschool, in a county full of overbearing out of touch adults, spooky cryptids & horrors lurking in the dark. Oh and also your a wizard, gifted with supernal power & a penchant for noticing all this supernatural bullshit. Lycanthropes, demons, spirits, ghosts & the fae have been a near daily occurrence in your life since freshman year. But as the summer of 85 comes to a close & softmore year approachs, the punks have finally started to get a little bit of respect from their stuffy mentors. But the things lurking in the depths of the mountains, corrupt evil wizards that serve dark gods, & Mrs Jones pop quizes are still out to get you. Being a teenager in high school is hard. Being a teen mage is gonna get messy.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I'm an LBGTQ+ game master with over 15 years of running role playing games. I specialize in the horror genre, like chronicles of darkness, but also run lore centered D&D & super hero games. If you enjoy over the top action which has you spitting in the face of death, then you will enjoy my storytelling style. I like to compare the types of games I enjoy running to buffy the vampire slayer or supernatural. My favorite games to run are Chronicles of Darkness, Sword Chronicle, & Forgotten Realms 3.75(pathfinder 1e using the 3.5 setting) I am a full time game master as well, so even if I dont have a game listed you are interested in, I am free & open outside of those times for custom game requests.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character generation will occur during a zero session with everyone present. This is as much to make sure we all mesh as a group of people as it is to make the characters, backgrounds & get everyones equipment setup. We will also discuss lines & veils for the game(please Private message me ahead of time if your uncomfortable with expressing these in a live chat). For those that join later, a one on one onboarding session will be scheduled outside of the normal game time to make you a character. THIS ONBOARDING SESSION IS CHARGED. Afterwards communication & further background info will be conducted with everyone via a discord channel on the server I use. No character's will be approved prior to the zero session. This includes pre-generated characters, & all players will be required to meet the same character creation expectations of the table, which may vary from group to group. Concepts related to local/state government, police & active military will not be allowed. There will be an emphasis on everyday people for character concepts(musicians, waitress, factory worker, etc), over specialized ones(occultists, private eyes, ex-marines, etc).
New Players that join after the campaign has started will be required to attend an onboarding session outside of the normal schedule to create a character appropriate for the group & setting. This onboarding session is charged. House Rules - New Characters will be built as mortals along the same XP curve as previous characters expierenced, before applying the newly awakened template & then buying up to the current power level of the cabal. - Freshman will start out at ages 14-15 on average, unless your a problem child who got held back for failing a grade, which would put you at 15-16 - Age to get your drivers permit is 16, but in the 1980s was often taught in schools as Driver's Ed classes. So player characters will not start off with a vehicle or drivers license. - Willow County is very poor, so the resources merit is capped at 2.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A discord account with quality microphone that allows for clear communication without undue background noise & a stable internet connection. Those who are operating on mobile hot spots will not be fast enough to stay connected with foundry. A PC that can meet the requirements to run Foundry Virtual Tabletop. Netbooks & chrome books I have found in the past do not meet meet these requirements. Familiarity with the Mage the Awakening 2nd Edition rules is good but not required.
What Dean brings to the table
I will be supplying the Foundry VTT for use with our game, with all the basic rules of Chronicles of Darkness input into it on top of additional content I've input over time(hurt locker, armory, dark eras, etc). Full custom graphics & NPC interfaces I've programed for it specifically.

How Dean creates a safe table
This campaign will be focused on high school freshman in rural Willow County Kentucky, who are just near completing their magical training as mages. We have played through several story arcs with the kids as mortals, & have played through the awakening process as described in the signs of sorcery supplement book. The teen punks are nearing the end of their Newly Awakened period & will soon obtain full Mage Template status. A large part of the campaign will be focused on the kids learning how to use their magic, & learning about mage society as a whole... while still going to high school. OPEN DISCLAIMER: This mage game is heavily focused on narrative elements, & role play. As such while the spellcasting is still very much a part of the game, it does take a backseat to the story, so this campaign may not be a good fit for heavily technical focused players. Most sessions will be a mixture of investigation, role playing & combat depending on where the current plot line is going. Combat is also very dangerous & realistic, so characters becoming injured or close to death isnt impossible. Sexual content will not be allowed in this game as you will be depicting underage characters. This is a hard line that will not be tolerated, though romance & dating is still very possible. Lines & veils will also be honored & set up ahead of the chronicle via discord chat, so that I can fine tune any plot content to avoid things players may not want to face in game. Additionally, I am always online via my discord both during & outside of game should you need to bring something to my attention, whether thats a veil thats being approached too close or something makes you uncomfortable.
