Experienced Keeper, but expectations not met. The 1920s Carnival setting was exotic, the NPCs felt alive, and our group was amazing. The Keeper has an engaging personality, great Mythos choices. Here is why it’s a firm 4 for me. Bold choices (roll your own dice at home, music through Keepers voice stream, split the party all the time) that took away from the experience not added to it. Production value was low for a paid game. Without a break, the Keeper's energy dropped. Dice rolls and sanity loss felt meaningless. When a key NPC literally said in the second hour, "It will be over soon, your questions do not matter anymore," just thought to myself, "Let's skip ahead then. :/" Indeed, whatever we did before the final scene did not matter much unfortunately. I understand it is a one shot but still... The listing promised "comedy with horror." We got spooky creeps, but no comedy or horror. I see potential, but at this stage, it is too disjointed and barebones for Pro status.
Edit: I leave my original review below. I am deeper in the campaign. Enjoying it. When I joined we had problem players including poor attitude (ex wants to play both back up and main character "because they are inseparable" and all the loot to these two only, nothing for the others players). Player who could not take a joke. Since then there is a great atmosphere with a good balance of witty comments, memes and proper RP/action. Happy how it turn out and not missing the disgruntled guys who left. =========== Second session so far - impressed by the visuals, the foundry integration, an the effort around the original setting. Combat and rulings are fair and make sense. The encounters are difficult so far so need to have a decent build. Handouts and maps give a lot of options to explore the sandbox. Looking forward to the next session.
