GM Joe has done a great job making Mothership approachable to new players. When it comes to game rules, the system is less complicated than many competing tabletop RPGs, and this keeps the focus on the science fiction horror narrative. Joe does a good job of allowing for player agency, while keeping things real. Finally - if you're brave (or foolish) enough to really lean into the nature of this game, your enthusiasm will be rewarded and overall enjoyment of the game definitely enhanced. What's the worst that can happen?
Players in Freydis games are lucky indeed to have a game master so skilled in world building and natural ability to immerse players into her world. Most of my previous experiences with Dungeons and Dragons have taken place in the Forgotten Realms setting, and no doubt more players are familiar with that world than any other. My last venture into a Homebrew world was mediocre at best. So I joined this campaign with a fair degree of skepticism… and have been impressed beyond words with the outcome. The level of detail is excellent, whether referring to local or global maps, religious pantheon, or player handouts. Combine this with strong knowledge of game mechanics in general, a very noob-friendly VTT, immersive soundtrack, and rich verbal descriptions, and the result is getting more than your money’s worth from each play session. I would enthusiastically recommend Freydis to others.
